who else has talked to their older kids Rss

well, I knew this day would come, and it still took me by surprise!! tongue

After brushing teeth and just before bed my DS (6 years old) asks me if I am pregnant... ummm no ... followed by how would I know if I was pregnant? And then how does the baby get in your tummy mum?

My reply was that it is something I am happy to talk to him about, but it is a bit tricky so Mum and Dad will have a talk to him tomorrow when we can all sit down together and talk about it.

So have decided that a simple version will do, just need to figure out my exact words.

Who else has tackled the subject? How did it go?

My fve year old just asked me how the baby got in my tummy and how it's going tocomeout. I just don't feel we are ready for anything close to tue truth and won't be for awhile yet. Told him daddy puts the babyinwith magic and it will come out my belly button. He was really happy with that. I don't think it's going to kill him not knowing the truth till he's very much older.

yep, we have had the simple version before (it grows in mummy's tummy and then the doctor takes it out) when I was preggers with DD2. He was probably similar age to your boy, just turned 5 or close to that.

Anyway this time I think he needs some more info as I know he is trying to figure it out in his head and getting nowhere. He will be 7 in April so I think it would be ok to have a simplified version.

My DD will be 4 in May and she has already asked me how did she and DS get into my tummy and how did they come out lol I explained to her in the easiest terms I could that daddy put a tiny weeny baby inside of mummy then when the baby grew big enough it either comes out of mummys tummy or out of her rudies (our word for vagina...) she was rather happy with that answer and hasn't asked many more questions about it since. When she does eventually ask about actual sex or whatever I will tell her the truth and explain to her that it's only something that mummys and daddys do smile

There are probably a few books out there that could give you better ideas on how to explain it all!

thanks, I might have to go the book option. I think this is what my mum did for us when we were kids.

My son is 10 and I haven't had that talk with him. I am very keen to get him a book... does anyone have any recommendations?
