So we found out yesterday that we are having fraternal twins, still only 8 weeks.scared and happy, we have a 12 month old daughter. just looking for support and tips from people that have twins. just worried about if we have enough money and will it all be okey.got work in july-nov just wondering how much will ill be able to do later on in the pregnancy?

money is a hard one to comment on as it all depends on your lifestyle.
We have identical twin girls who are now 16mths and lived off one average wage from about 26 weeks preg through their first 12 mths. The best suggestion that i can give you is to just be cautious with spending between now and when bubs are born. Don't be tricked into thinking that you need 2 of everything because you are having twins. I had the girls in 1 cot until they were about 6 mths and both of my cots were second hand (we knew the people who we got them from though).
If someone offers you clothes, don't say no. If there are things that dont suit then pass them onto the next person who may need them. My girls are almost in a size 2 and the majority of their clothes have been second hand. Most of my friends have girls and they just pass on their clothes when their children have grown out of them. Don't get me wrong i buy the odd thing here and there but only if i have to.
If someone asks what they can get you as a baby gift don't be shy asking for practical things like linnen, towels, nappies, wipes etc. We used disposables with the girls when they were babies but now use cloth and find it much cheaper (not for everyone i know).
You will be supprised how practical you can be when you have to smile
The reality of carying twins is that you will probably go a little earlier that a typical term pregnancy and depending on how things are going with your pregnancy you may be recommended to give up work a little earlier than you may have done with your 1st bub but again everyone is different.
For me it was recommended to give up work at around 26 weeks and i was put on bed rest from just over 31 weeks. My girls were delivered at 33 weeks.
It will all depend on what work you do and how the prenancy has been.

I am 10 weeks pregnant and we just had our dating scan only to hear that we're expecting twins! Cant be certain if they're identical or fraternal but it was a MAJOR shock!
There have been no twins in either side of the family, (well as far as is traceable) and this was a natural conception. Just not something we even remotely considered!
Still in shock and my hubby has been going crazy... need a bigger car, new pram, new cots, highchairs, how will they feed, what are we going to do!
lol panic!
I'm getting used to it slowly which is good and just looking at things realistically.
Just more unsure of the pregnancy & delivery side of things as its a whole different ball game than my first little boy.
Just still waiting for the doc to call and say it was a mistake or a joke lol just feels unreal!

any tips on the pregnancy side of things would be appreciated!

Hi there Claire, thanks for your reply. I guess my main questions are about the care involved with a twin pregnancy. Are there more ultrasounds, and how often are they? also what about drs visits and such? I havent been back to my gp since we found out but I have an appointment later this week

i am also pregnant with twins. i am 17 weeks tomorrow and our twins are fraternal. we also have a 13 month son so a bit worried on how hard its going to be and how our son is going to go with 2 new babies. any suggestions or advice from people that have been in this situation would be great.

My boys are now 4 months old (tomorrow) and I had a very lucky and positive pregnancy!! I carried my twins to 37weeks 3 days (scheduled c-sect only because I'd had two c-sections before, the boys were in perfect position to come out naturally) They would have stayed in longer!! I worked up till 31 weeks, and only finished because the school year finished and being a teacher I couldn't possibly work anymore anyway laugh I only ever measured 41 weeks, lots of twin mums can measure 54+ and my boys were great weights of 2.8 and 2.4 kgs. Neither needed any treatment and roomed with me from the moment they were born!

I did have two more ultrasounds one at 28 weeks and one at 32 to check they were growing and I was told they were happy so I didn't need any more scans. Some people have them every two weeks. I didn't really see my obs any more often than i did with my singletons either!

The only way you can tell for certain via ultra sound if your twins are fraternal is if they are b/g twins!! I found this interesting. We were told ours were fraternal and we didn't find out the sexes but we were told depending on when the egg splits they can be di/di ids. Mine are definitely frat though. One has blonde hair the other black and they also have different blood groups!!

Big W sells curash wipes in big boxes of ten when you can get them. GREAT Value. I put them on layby and now have enough to last over a year!

I also BFeed because It's free!!! Most of the time I feed them individually but if they are both crying I'll twin feed them.

Wow sounds like twins are common this year. I am currently almost 18 weeks with identical girl twins. these are baby 4 and 5 for us didnt come as a shock as both my mum and dad are identical twins. we are very excited and know it is going to be hard but you get through it grin

Hi Kristi, it really depends on your individual pregnancy as to how many ultrasounds and dr appointment you will have. As Calzo said she only had a couple of extra ultrasounds during her pregnancy where as i had soooooo many. From abut 22 weeks i was travelling to melbourne once a week (we are in bendigo)for scans and doppler then by about 28 weeks i was having them twice a week, then admitted to hospital at almost 32 weeks.
Although i didn't have any issues with my prenancy so to speak we did have issues with one of the babies cord pressures therefor heaps of ultrasounds to check what was going on. Babies were born at 33 weeks 2004gm and 2110 gms.
They are now both perfectly happy and healthy at 16 mths old.
It will also depend on if they are Frat or ID as id can tend to be higher risk.

Hi there I have non identical twin girls and I had ultrasounds done every 2 weeks delivered naturally at 35 +4 I was induced due to having pre-eclampsia and spent 9 days in hospital before they were born and 7 days after. The girls weighed 1.7kg & 1.8kg and were 41cm & 43cm they spent 10 days in SCN.

My belly ended up measuring 50 weeks and I got no stretchmarks grin so I would recommend using a lotion every day morning and night I used the palmers one for stretchmarks smile

I have a 2 1/2 son. I didnt do the 12 week scan (dont feel as thou I needed it), so my 20 week scan came along and bang there they are two baby girls. I had asked my specalist to listen out for two heart beats and he could only hear one. So finding out there is two at 20 weeks was rough. My husband and I are so happy now that we are over the shock of it all. We will be having scans done every 3 weeks. I am 26 weeks now and I have to stop work at 28 weeks which was another shock (the whole money thing and how the heck are we going to live). As I had a very long labour with my son and had to have a c-section in the end, I have been told it is best for me to have a c- section at 38 weeks, thats if the girls dont decide to come early as I have also been told by other mums of twins that they can come anywhere from 34 weeks. Fingers crossed they stay there for a while.I have started to notice I am really tired and not getting any sleep but the one thing that is helping is putting my feet on a pillow in bed, having them raised takes away the heavyness and relaxes me bit more.
I have joined the mulptiple birth club were you can get cheap car set rentels $30 bond and $30 for hirage per carset and they are the clip in ones. There is also $30 for the twin snap and goes so you can just snap the carset into the frame and off you go into town for a bit. You can also get in home help as well from WINZ. So many hours you get given and they have to be used up within a year (I think).This could come in handy for anyone. You can have a agency or family or friend do it and they get paid $14.77 an hour( but if they work it will be secondary tax) sad

One thing I have learnt is "your not alone, there are heaps of families with mulitples. We will get throu it. They were given to use for a reason, and I think that reason is becasue we are strong people and we can get thru anything" smile

I have recently found out that I am 11 weeks pregnant with identical twins, and all I can think of is the practical stuff like we need a new car, additional stuff etc. It is all pretty over whelming.

I have a 13yr old daughter and a 2yr old daughter also.

These 2 were definitely not planned, and I was on the pill.

I am wondering how I am going to cope both physically and financially. It is all pretty over whelming, but I am so pleased that there are other mums who are feeling like I am, doesn't make you feel so alone.

I am also 17weeks preg with ID twins, as most of you ladies it was a shock to find this out!
I have started the research side of things as I have NO idea what to expect or do...these will be my first 'living' babies so freaking out a bit!!
I am with the high risk team at wgtn hosp have scans and OB app's every two weeks so that is very re-assuring =)

So had my first ultrasound yesterday at 7 weeks to find not 1 but 2 little heartbeats and sacks. Its all very exxciting but the shock is still setting in and just being overwhelmed. Should I be taking more vitamins or should I be doing something different now, i struggle to eat much but try to keep up my fluids as much as possible. Just not sure what to expect for the next 6-7 months.....please help

not sure about the vitamins but talk to your midwife/DR before taking any extra (i personally wasnt able to take them as the made me sick).

i wasnt able to eat much either til about 13/14wks so would drink 'complan' to help keep up my energy and ate alot of fruit (i craved fruit really bad lol). make sure you let you maternity carer know that your unable to eat much so they can keep an eye on your iron levels.

Well we had our date scan the other day, only to find out that we are expecting twins. We already have 2 children (6years and 2 years). Were hoping for 1 more, and given there is no twins in our families it was a big shock.

I'm still hoping that someone can wake me out of this dream.... but the nice lady at the scan printed it for me just so i had proof.

So any advise, help?
Do you get induced or will they come early?

This pregnancy has been so different from the first two, i don't know what to expect. I was so close to being cut open, i am scared it will happen this time.

How hard is breast feeding with two?
Where do i get a stroller thats not $800 that fits two capsules in it?

Hello and congratulations! I am 28 weeks with twins and still in shock. We are have boy and a girl. Not sure about a srtoller with capsules as we don't use them. I have the baby jogger city mini. I know you can fit 1 casule on it. Check out www.winkalotts.co.nz. Very cheap but they have limited choices. I hope you have found out some answers to your questions as it has been a while since you posted.
Twins can come naturally and you can birth vaginlly as long as twin A is head down.
They can come early but there is nothing to suggest that they have to. As long as all is going fine during pregnancy.
