Scared to return to work Rss

I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to make a transition back to work. I am a chef and work split shifts and weekends. I don't have any external help from family.... It's just the 3 of us. I don't have any close friend that could help out due to their work commitments...etc.

I am looking at returning to work in 3 months and I don't know what to do. sad I am scared of leaving DD with strangers and I am afraid because of the hours I will never get to see her or have quality family time. I need to work full time as part time isn't enough income.

Does anyone have any ideas? I have even considered a career change, but am not qualified to do anything else.
What about cooking in a more hours friendly arrangement? Like a cafe, school cafeteria or aged care home?

Also, I looked at our lifestyle and altered it for the moment so I could stay home. If it isn't what you want to do (going back to work) maybe think about it?? We seem to think we should be able to have the lifestyle we did before, when realistcly it has changed a great deal. I know I don't want to miss a thing either.

Good luck with your decision either way...
I know how you feel although I'm not in a split shift situation and I have family help. I was going to say exactly the same as Sarah_A - you could try finding a job in a hospital or aged care home where the hours are much more family friendly. My DH is a chef and he now works at a hospital which is awesome - Monday to Friday, 8am-4.30pm. And great conditions, pay and people. Our local child care centre also has a chef/cook who cooks meals for the kids, another place to look perhaps?

I'm not sure what else to suggest other than that I'm sorry. sad All the best.
Thanks, I never thought of going into hospital..etc.
There's so much anxiety with going back to work, but I guess it's something we all have to do at some stage. xx smile
what about a nanny? you can get them thro the family day care services - that way at least she could be in your home?
I realise this was a long time ago but have you considered teaching? I am a head teacher of a home ec faculty and there are a lot of chef who are retraining as hospitality teachers. The dept pays for your training as long as you stay in the job 3 yrs otherwise you pay them back pro rata. Let me know if you need more info.

If you could that would be awesome! I have always wanted to teach but never thought there is much demand for positions. smile
