My poor dd :( Rss

Well yesterday one of my twins came to me in the afternoon all worried and asked me if she could have one of my AF pads. I was like whats wrong sweet and she tells me she's like mum now and is bleeding gasp She came to me without knickers on and there was blood down her legs. She'd just been to the toilet and done a wee. Luckily she hadn't flushed and when I went and checked it was all pale pink. So I quickly rang our doctor and quickly took her to the doctors. In the 30 minute drive we had to stop 5 times for her to wee. Soon as we got to the doctors I got her to wee in a jar and it was looking fairly clear not visibly pink as I'd given her water to drink. So our doctor tested it and said it was extremely bad and lucky we didn't wait for the morning as she would of ended up in hospital. She gave very strong antibiotics and said we need to go back next week to test her wee again and also to organise a scan on her kidneys and bladder.
The doctor asked why we left it so late but my dd didn't tell me it was hurting to wee. She later told me it had been hurting a bit and she'd been feeling sick but didn't want to worry me sad I told her she always needs to tell me and that I'm more worried if she doesn't tell me. I feel sad that my poor dd was trying to be strong and has ended up quite sick sad Hopefully the antibiotics start working soon.
Can anyone tell me what causes a Urinary tract infection and also what I can do to help prevent them. Thanks.
Sorry to hear about your lil girl..poor thing I hope she recovers quickly!
This is what I found..

What Causes Urinary Tract Infections?

The most common cause of UTIs are bacteria from the bowel that live on the skin near the rectum or in the vagina, which can spread and enter the urinary tract through the urethra. Once these bacteria enter the urethra, they travel upward, causing infection in the bladder and sometimes other parts of the urinary tract.
Another cause of bladder infections or UTI is waiting too long to urinate. The bladder is a muscle that stretches to hold urine and contracts when the urine is released. Waiting too long past the time you first feel the need to urinate can cause the bladder to stretch beyond its capacity. Over time, this can weaken the bladder muscle. When the bladder is weakened, it may not empty completely and some urine is left in the bladder. This may increase the risk of urinary tract infections or bladder infections.

To prevent UTI..drink plenty of water, Vit C, Cotton underwear, Wipe from front to back, Showers instead of baths and not to hold in the urine when you need to go.
I googled this info..hope this helps..
Thanks Jas for that info. I still can't believe she was trying to be strong and soldier through it so I wouldn't worry sad
Poor thing, thinking of her mum first sad my ds had a habit of holding on while playing games and that caused him to have a UTI as he couldnt wee properly. roll eyes
Hope the AB kicks in and do its job wink
Your poor girl, i hope she's better soon and that the scans go ok.

People who live in glass houses.....shouldn't walk around naked!

Your poor girl, i hope she's better soon and that the scans go ok.

Thanks and yeah I hope the scans go well too.
Naw, the poor girl! sad
It makes you feel so horrible when you have no idea that they're sick doesn't it? She's so sweet to try and be strong and brave for you, hope she starts feeling better real soon.
