right fitness people! Rss

what do I do?

I have put on weight since mum was diagnosed with cancer as I am a terrible emotional eater. Now I am feeling the effects of added weight as well as the emotional stuff.

I get a lot of exercise doing the property, but I want to step it up a notch and I need a plan. (and an outlet....)

I have no idea where to start...so can you guys help make me buff. laugh
(well, maybe not buff...just not a buffer. cool)
I've been doing yoga, mainly for my mind but there's definite toning going on- I always feel it the next day lol but when I'm not pregnant I do cage fit- its fierce!! Mainly it's kicking the crap out of a free standing punching bag in between rounds of sit ups and push ups...love it and miss it so much but don't think it's safe for pregnancy and I couldn't keep up anyway laugh

Hope you find something you love! How is your mum going??

Losing weight is a simple equation. Eat less than you expend. So if you eat more you need to move more.

Get a pedometer and keep an eye on how many steps you are taking a day (how much you are moving). Try and beat the day 'step' amount each day. Housework is a great energy burner. Walk more. Park further away from the shop doors to make yourself get those extra steps in.

You know you are an emotional eater, so when you go to eat stop, ask yourself if you are really hungry. Have a glass of water and wait 10 minutes trying to distract yourself first.

I hope your mum gets better soon.
2 littlebs that IS a very good idea! I have occasionally been inspired and thought - yeah! I am going to train for an Iron Man Comp....then because I am so unfit and I really am not great on a bike or swimming in the ocean...really its not the best goal to set. laugh I will do that though, just with smaller stuff, thank you. smile

thanks - I used to do yoga, it was great! I should get back into it. I was thinking about doing kickboxing too. Mum is doing ok, thanks. Her attitude is brilliant, she keeps saying she is fine and she seems to cope really well. Its really hard to watch though. sad She is not quite halfway through her chemo though. So its a reallllllly long road. I need to find a way to change how I am dealing with it, because I just feel crap all the time and I don't want to put on weight.

Oh mate, it's tough for sure. So glad she has a great attitude- she will love seeing you do something positive to deal with it too smile yoga will be great to get back into, especially as a starter and you will really be able to use it to tune out and send some positive thoughts into the universe. As for kickboxing- nothing makes you feel tougher laugh and you can imagine you are kicking the ass of your mums illness wink might be super therapeutic not to mention, make you a hot mama in no time x

I am struggling with the emotional eating, still working on ways with dealing with that.... (any advice welcome) I already am moving most of the day as I am cleaning yards, weeding, shovelling, chasing kids, housework, moving heavy wheelbarrows of manure up hills. All our carparks around here are hills and I don't really go to the shops often enough for it to really make a difference. I need to take the exercise to another level as I am not actually sure I have enough time in the day to get in any extra steps! Does that make sense? I need to burn more in the same space of time, but I am not sure of the best way to do that. really I only sit down after the kids are in bed. during the day I jump on huggies when I walking past, so even that I usually do it standing up! lol

sounds like its for me then! I really just want to kick the s.hit out of everything. cool
Emotional eating - have a big glass of water instead and then pop a chewy in your mouth to keep it busy!

I used to do pilates every day - was the fittest I've ever been. I had a dvd called the crunch series; burn & firm and it was only 30 mins a day, and I got sick of the same old, however it toned every part of my body. Once my body recovers I plan to get back into it again. The pilates I did was a mixture of cardio aerobics as well as core strength building... so it burned fat as well as toned muscle. I used to go for a good walk about 3 times a week back then too and I look back at photos and wish I looked like that again!

About 2 years ago I took up running for something different... after a while I was running 6kms a day, and after 6 months of this I honestly wasn't seeing much difference in my body. I still had cellulite on my legs!

So I'm going to stick to doing what I know works for me.

Ive also been bad at emotional eating in the past. Things Ive done to help have been getting rid of any unhealthy food in the house, always having a huge bowl of fruit in a bowl on the bench, shopping for groceries when Im not hungry, writing a list for my groceries and only going once a week and when i run out of milk or bread I get DH to pick it up! Also having a big breakfast to kick things off- like eggs on toast, then making sure I dont wait till Im really hungry before I eat next. All of these things have helped me smile

Ta! We don't really have unhealthy food - as much as I want chocolate, I will eat the whole thing straight away. sad
I had to stop buying cashews or nut mixes because I was eating so much it was giving me headaches. You have reminded me to put a vegie pick platter in the fridge as a good option. thanks smile

water and chewy - great idea, I will do that! I hadn't thought of chewy.

I always wondered about Pilates, I wasn't really sure what it was like, all I knew was it was good for bad backs. Might have a look at that too. ta.

Pilates is great! I did it a few years ago and Dh still tells me that it was the best thing I did to tone me up!

thank you for that review! 2 votes for pilates, I shall give it a bash!
