Hi there. I'm a Mum of 2 and since having my second son in December I rely so much on eating high sugar items such as lollies and chocolate to get me through the day. Nothing else seems to cut it - I'm so tired and exhausted I need sugar fixes to pick me up. Sounds ridiculous I know - I am not a large person and have lost most of my pregnancy weight. Don't know why I'm doing this - anyone else experiencing this? Any tips?
Help! Sugar gets me through the day!
Yeah sounds like me in past few weeks. In first few months I was good with my diet eating really well. Now I find myself living off toast and sugary biscuits and lots of quick prepare foods during day, I do eat a proper dinner. I just don't seem to prioritise my eating anymore. It seems the more I have the more I want. So I hear ya. Every day I tell myself I will be good tommorow. Think I mean it today smile Goodluck. Maybe try prepare some healthy breakfast tonight for tommorow. Put your museli in a bowl and cover it so you just have to add yoghurt or milk. Maybe make your lunch too just like you would for work so you just have to get it from fridge. I should take my own advice!
I hate to tell you but if you keep eating things like lollies and chocolate you're gonna keep feeling that way. The sugars in them are rapidly digested and absorbed and cause fluctuations in blood sugar levels. So you'll get a sugar hit but then your blood sugar levels will drop off quickly and you'll feel tired again. You're much better off going for foods with low GI index (wholemeal bread, pasta, veggies etc). The carbs in them are digested and absorbed much slower and maintain your blood sugar at a stable level. You'll feel fuller and you'll have more energy - they also contain vitamins and minerals which are good for you. Try changing your diet for a couple of weeks. You'll probably feel worse for the first few days whilst your body's detoxing - but in the long run you'll feel much better
When I first had DD I found myself wanting more and more sugar but I refused to eat it cause I really wanted to get my prepregnancy body back. I soon realized that i wasn't eating at all. So what I did instead was cut up a whole heap of fruit and veggies and leave them on the bench during the day. Since it was already cut up it was say to snack on during the day. I would sometimes also leave some whole grain crackers out or cut up a small amount of cheese and leave it in the fridge. That way I was eating during the day, i was full and my sugar cravings quickly stopped.
Just a suggestion...

This is what I do as well! I have all my snacks cut up and that is what I go to when I'm hungry and I will allow myself to eat as much of that as I want (think carrot sticks, etc).
It also sounds like you need an energy boost, I was a energy drink junkie and boy was that hard to give up!! I have switched to a dietary supplement with all natural ingredients and it has given me so much energy that I can't take it too close to bed time or I'm up all night!! LOL
Good luck though, it's so hard to break a habit like that! Trust me, I've been there!
