What are your quick tips for cleaning a house for a visitor??

I always make sure I have vacuumed, done dishes, cleaned all surfaces (Bathroom/toilet) and bedrooms and just have everything in general tidy!

So wondering what your tips are as I know some Mums r mighty crafty and dont go to extreme measures but still get a gr8 result grin.

As we have 2 huskies which come inside if someone says they will be over in 30 min I run vacum over floorboards if they look a bit fluffy. Make sure kitchen surface is pretty much empty (dishes done and bills and stuff that is usually on bench are put away) and make sure bathroom bench is wiped down. And coffee table has been straightened up. Toilet is usually clean enough have trained husband to check before he leaves toliet like us girls smile. That's about it.
Oh I am still a few weeks from having a baby I am sure it will get harder with kids in tow...
I just try to keep the house as tidy/clean as possible so I don't have to do a mad dash around before they come, I also hope that people come to see us not how tidy my house is smile

Shut the bedroom and laundry doors, wipe the bathroom sink over, give the toilet a quick clean, shove dishes in dishwasher, wipe benches & do a quick tidy & vacuum of the living room only smile

Lol.... I sound like a pig! That's only if ive just worked 5 in a row & dh has been home with dd. Usually its acceptable if someone walks in!

yes. but not until a few months in when they can move. wink
i do the same as chalys except pile any clean washing in the wardrobe.

dh did it once......he put the dirty dishes in the oven. blink
Washing is my downfall!!!! tongue I generally have clean washing on my couch or in baskets ready to be put away etc. So if someone is coming i quickly put it away or if its on the couch it will go into baskets and into my bedroom as I dont show anyone in my bedroom as it is mine and my hubby's personal space!!! lol (and possibly the messiest room in the house!!! lol)My house is always clean but not always tidy!!! I work from home looking after kids so there is always toys about or paintings drying somewhere but the floor is always clean.... I sweep up to 3 times a day!!! lol and it gets mopped at least twice a week mostly more!!! And my bathroom/toilet gets cleaned at the end of every day, So i figure as long as my kids and hubby have clean clothes available does it really matter if they get it out of their wardrobe or off the couch??? lol I have a large island bench in the middle of my kitchen which is the dumping ground for anything and everything which can look very messy at times however in the mornings I do a general tidy up and clear most if not all of it off as I like the house to look nice when the families turn up!! At the end of the day it might be a different story lol but as long as the kids go home with a smile on their faces then I dont really care how MESSY my house is!!!! I do cheat on a Friday I get a wonderful chicky babe to come in a give the house a once over so then I dont have to clean on a weekend. It is the best $50 I spend every weekand I figure I work a minimum of 45 hours a week so it is money well spent!!! And Friday is generally my washing day, I try to get as much of the washing done before the weekend so I can concentrate on my kids and hubby!!!

First we had Each Other, Then we had You, Now we have Everything

clean the kitchen bench and sink, sweep or a quick vacuum. wipe over the toilet/sink.A bit of pine oclean or dettol in the sink makes it smell like you have been cleaning all day

mum of 3 boys aged 10, 11 and 13

If I'm really pressed for time, clear all the junk out of the lounge and chuck it in the bedroom and do the dishes and wipe surfaces in the kitchen.
We have a seperate toilet and bathroom so will generally only do a quick clean of the toilet!
Oh and open some windows.
haha if I have more time I do more, but that generally does the trick if I only have a little time smile
haha it is sooo interesting hearing everyones perspectives and what they do!!! hahaha dishes hiden away in nooks and crannies haha!!!
