may have to cause some pain soon Rss

ok so were having a cleanout..we have so much clutter its a joke as for some reason we cant say no to other people crap that they 'kindly' donate to us...probebly because tip fees are so much, they tell me a bag of kids 'things' then run before i check it out and i find things like a broken mobile phone and a tv remote <img src='http://www.huggies.com.au/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' /> in one bag i found a blender that didnt work

soooo...anyway..cleanout

DH has this habit of saying, but we will use it, or but what if we NEED it? those are expensive to buy brandnew! etc etc all sorts of excuses to keep s**t (and it IS s**t) he even found an arguement to keep a puzzle thats missing a number of pieces...we can just copy what should be there onto cardboard and cut it out..ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!??? and no i DONT want to keep the old toothbrush i found in the bottom of a suitcase to clean with!

anyway sorry for the rant, does anyone else live with a horder? and how to you get thru to them that some things need to be let go of and/or recycled etc?
Oh I hate clutter - both my mum and MIL hoard - mum is craft stuff MIL is random crap that she may use one day.
what you could do is if you've got the space, put all the stuff that he says he'll use in a certain spot - every time he uses something he can find a new home for it, give him 3 months and whatever is still left in the pile biff.

All I can say is I feel for you laugh laugh laugh
I am and have always been a minimalist. If my house is cluttered I actually start losing my sunshine and spark. My mood and personality turns to gloom. Living with your husband would drive me to an early grave for sure laugh laugh laugh

lol hes an awesome guy but hes a bit of an environmentalist and believes were doing our part for mother earth my not adding land fill and finding new ways to use our junk or to fix things etc etc

i agree to a point i like to use old bottles for vegie seedlings and old clothes to cut up the fabric to make costumes for the kids etc..but theres a limit. we burn what can burnt and recycle as much as we can and the rest is off to the tip.. the prob is he wont say no to 'donations' and then our crap multiplys

and i swear to god stuffed animals do naughty things at night because i swear theyre multiplying without my knowledge

I just got back from NZ on Saturday and ventured in the back yard for the first time today.... THERE IS A BATH TUB leaning against my rock wall.

My garage has limited car parking space cos there is stuff everywhere and the visa is showing PAYPAL purchases.

So i go away for 2 wks return to a pigsty and an unexplained bath tub!

Can i send him your way gypsy kylz to sort out at the same time!

Thats really sweet smile

We have quite a lot of clutter that I am dying to get rid of and sort through. I am just currently trying to find the time to do so.

My hubby isn't a hoarder but we have a lot of stuff crammed into cupboards and drawers at our place and it's driving me crazy so you are not alone!
My god you are soooo not alone my husband has used all those lines on me too!!!!

a couple of examples are: I found an old Iron in the cupboard that I know I threw out a couple of years ago blink blink

And late lkast year I went through all the boy's little cars and dinosaurs and donated a shopping bag full to the school, It was just a pitty that DH had the day off when I took them in you should have seen the look on his face the teacher even asked are you sure you want to donate them!!!!

As for other peoples crap I now say NO before they can even tell me what it is!!!

But on the plus side we are looking at a new house so while he's on board for getting this house ready to sell I'll be throwing/selling/donating what I can lol!!!

my words aexactly...spot on smile

We have no clutter in our house, simply because i go through cupboards regularly and chuck out any unwanted/nedded items. my husband teases me and says "that i mess up a cupboard deliberately, just so i can sort through it again" smile this is true smile i just perfer to know what is in our house, so i can find everything. all our daughter's toys are in clear boxes labelled, and stuff she has outgrown, goes straight to the shed....not in the house. We are like the dad on the movie "castle", instead of saying "this is going straight to the pool room", we say "this is going straight to the shed " smile

he is a sweetheart wub and i love his attitude, but when you have a 4 bedroom house and nowhere to put things...you have too man 'things' lol
My Dp is the same he gets it from his dad who gets it from his pop 3 generations of hoarders mil and I always talk stadegies of getting rid of there crap!!!

This is what I have found lol
Dp kept his dads old motorbike shirts that were black but now look grey why seriously why would you keep that blink
Buckets with holes soo useful!!!
Old phones with no chargers, broken iPhone cases, cords to god knows what all jumbled in a box on the cupboard angry

What I do is when his at work I slowly throw stuff out or donate because it's done over a amount of time he doesn't notice his crap disappearing laugh
If I let him keep going we would end up on that show hoarders seriously!!!

I always feel guilty doing a trip to the tip, but I guess sometimes it just has to be done for your own sanity!
