Securing a flat screen tv Rss

DH is desperate to buy a new TV. Understandable ours isn't widescreen, HD or free-view.

But how do you secure them?

We have a 1 and 3 yr old.

I have seen a hole at the base of the TVs but are you meant to drill into your TV cabinet?
so you are wanting to use it on a cabinet? then you just sit it on the cabinet with the "base" attached, some like ours have a wee strap that you then bolt onto your cabinet (worked great in the earthquakes) or we've got ours on the wall, soo much better, no grubby fingers all over the screen!
Do they have special cabinets that make it easier to strap down?

Otherwise we have to drill into the top ourself?

The wall isn't as option as we are renting.
I bought these safety straps from eBay. We have screwed the straps to the back of our TV cabinet. We are renting too so we can't screw the TV to the wall, although I'd really like to! The straps are great though, well worth the $20.

I have a good sturdy cabinett we have a large 55 inch flatscreen we have just used cellotape to tape it down worked great in june, dec quakes
