tubes tied? Rss

Hi

I have two sons and a girl on the way, my first is two and a half, second is 7 months and my third will be due in novemeber (she was our unplanned surprise)as you all can see they are all close in age and i definantly dont want anymore children ever. I have asked my doctor about getting my tubes tied and he keeps saying we will talk about it later I know it has to do with my age Because im only twenty, but because of where i live he has delivered both of my children and will do again he knows the boys were planned and are well taken care for, my partner works on the mines so money isnt and never has been an issue. Is there anything i can say to speed the process up as my mother had seven children and i really dont want to have anymore kids because as one of seven i missed out on alot growing up and i dont want to do that to my children...

thankyou...
after you have this baby pay to see a private gynae, that is the only way you will get one. i too asked about getting them done and they said they wont until im over 30, but you will just have to find a private gynae who will be willing to do it.

I am having mine done when i have this bub. I have to have another ceaser so they are more than happy to do it while they are in there. I will have just turned 27 when they do it. Hayley

im only 24, and the gynae out here said not before 30, might have to look at going away.

Thankyou for your help smile will be getting onto it as soon as bub has arrived..
if you get the right doc you can get it done efore 30. but most wont.
my advice is hassel him about it NOW dont let him palm you off with the we'll talk about it later. you have to get onto it so he knows. and in case you do have a csect he could do it then knowing that thats your plan and not a spur of the moment thing during labour KWIM???

good luck with it

Im 28 and they are letting me have one after my bub is born. She is due in 4 and a bit weeks and then I have to wait three months so the uterus is right out the way but they have no probs letting me.
Its the Womens and Childrens in Adelaide so its a big hospital to.

I asked my GP a couple years ago and she refused and said that the Dr doing it has to be happy with the decision - and she was not.

Maybe its because its a big public hospital and thats why they'll will do it this time. I know others who are under thirty and have had their tubes tied to so I think its just a matter of finding the right Dr and pleading your case.
I've been told depends on your age and how many kids you've had. Then on top of that any difficulties birthing or during pregnancy. I asked when I was 25and just had my second, have no intention of anymore, and was flatly refused by my GP and then an GYN. There excuse I was too young.
I've moved and haven't really bothered to ask again, however I am interested in Essure so might see about that.

If you get your tubes tied, does AF stop? (I am quite clueless on the internal workings of my body smile )
I will be a few months shy of 32 smile and this will be my 3rd baby

One of my friends wasn't offered it - they said she was bit young - only 27yrs but 2nd baby.

Well I only live in a fairly small town but it could be due to my circumstances. I am having bub #3 and this will be my 3rd csection. 1st was an emergency c-sec, tried for a natural birth for my second bub and 14 hours in my uterus started to rupture so i was rushed to theatre. So after that birth I was told this would most likely have to be my last bub anyway. This pregancy is classed as high risk because of the chance my uterus may rupture again.

So my doctor actually asked me if i wanted them to clamp my tubes while i'm in, at the time I hadnt really thought about it but now I'm definitly getting it done, figure I may as well seeing as their going to be opening me up anyway.

I asked to get mine done after my 3rd baby (I was 24)and I felt absolutely sure that I did not want to have anymore. Also I'd had 3 caesers but they still refused to do it. Now when I look back though I ended up divorcing the father of my 3 and met and fell in love with another and we have just had a little bubby and I couldnt be happier. So in the end Im so glad that they wouldnt do it or I wouldnt have my new beautiful little girl. Just something to think about.
if you cant get it done perhaps get your partner to have the snip.

That's not quite so easy either. DH is 34 and I am 32 and we just had our second ( 11yrs between them ) and don't want anymore so we went to the GP about my husband getting the snip, as I was already told I was too young, and he wouldn't give him a referral either. I am now booked in to have it done in December through my ob/gyno and only because I have tried so many different types of contraception, which I always get horrible side effects from.

My sister however was 27 when she had her tubes done, after the birth of her third child, hers was also because of medical circumstances.

My sister said she still gets her period, and she said sometimes it is light and not a lot of pain and then other times it is heavy and painful but they are always on time.

Nope, your body will release an egg but your body absorbs it. Apparently this makes period pain more painful :/

I'm currently considering one myself. I'm due for #5 before my 25th birthday. A friend of a friend of mine had hers done when she had her son by Cser 5 years ago. They did it free "while they were down there" according to her. Not sure if it's true though. She was about 23 and it was a public hospital.
I'm looking at getting either that or an IUD. The marina has a higher success rate at protecting against pregnancy than tubal ligation (tube clamp, cut or tie)

geez some doctors are ridiculous. dont they trust that people do actually know what is best for themselves.
Hi,

I have had 3 children via emergency c sections as i was being prepared for theatre on baby number 3, the gyno said this has to be your last baby. And i said as i have had a ectopic pregnancy and now have one tube can you tye the other tube. The gyno said no your to young .

I am 30 years old and been told NOT to have any more children but couldn't get my tube tied, so my husband just had a vesictomy...
hi all thanks for the replies! I will keep bringing it up at my appointments as it is something i really really want done, i knoow for sure i want know more kids because of my age i will still be young and very capable when they are out of home to go travel and so fourth, Also my partner cant get the snip as he is only 24 this december and they make it alot harder for men to get a snip because they tend to go off and have a second family if a split occurs...

Unfortunatley the chances of me having a csect are very low as iv had two natural births. So it must just have to come down to hassling he is a good doctor and gyno so i think maybe he will budge...
Hi, i was very interested in reading everyones post, its amazing, how we all live in the same country yet get given different opinions and choices. Me and DH decided this will be our last as im pregnant with #4, we have 3 boys 5yrs and under and hoped to be lucky enough to get a girl, well luck was on our side, so thats it for us, i asked about having my tubes done and the ob said that was definetely an option as im just turned 28 this is number 4 and will be my 4th cesar, so she said if i did want to do it they will do it while there in there. She did mention though, that having your tubes done is a 1 in 300 chance of still getting pregnant and suggested about getting a marina (had never heard of it) but its something they can put in it last for 5yrs so if you decid you want another baby, its just a matter of taking it out, or after 5yrs you get another one put in. The marina has a 1 in 1000 chance of getting pregnant. Just food for though, just figured id share. All the best smile

This sounding like each doctor to their own.

My DH is 31 and the doctor has no problem arranging for him to have the snip, and I'm 32 and am getting my tubes done.

My OB also said having your tubes done won't affect your period, you will still get it, it should be same as before but you shouldn't get pregnant as the tubes are clamped/cut. She also made it clear that there has been the rare case where a woman has gotten pregnant and had a successful pregnancy as the tubes could grow back together.

hi

be careful if you decide to do the Marina... i was recommended to do that... the side effects were bad... weight gain, headaches and lots of discharge... i only had it in for a month and got it taken out.

Hmmm.....im the exact opposite! I have the Mirena and i LOVE it! No side effects whatsoever- if anything ive lost a little weight, but doubt its from that! Af is now only a day or two at the most and no pain with it like i used to get, and really light!

I would find it quite surprising that anyone would do it for you at 20. Sorry, but at 20 and even with 2 kids and 1 on the way, you are still very young, mentally, phsyically and mentally. I'm sure you are a fantastic mum as you are obviously willing to make such a huge decision for the sake of your other children however at 20 you really dont have the value of maturity [pls dont think i'm calling you immature, as i'm definatly not] and the outlook that someone in their 30's might have.
Life is full of changes and ups and downs and what we think we want/need in our 20's is so totally different than what we want/need in our 30's+.
I have a good friend who insisted her husband get the snip when they first got married in her early 20's as she did not want any children at all. She was never maternal or had a feeling of ever wanting to be a mum. I begged her to not make such a rash decision but she was addament. Guess whats happend now now that she's in her mid 30's? She is desperate to have a baby and can not without going through assistance. It has put a huge strain on their marriage, they were always the 'ideal couple' that we all envied. Like she said, at 22 she had no idea how she would feel at 35, so much has changed in her life and she now feels totally lost and incapable.
If you genuinely do not want any more children, cant you use the pill or a condom? Or get the injection. There are so many oher less permanent birth control options out there.
DF wants me to get my tubes done after we have #3 (going to TTC next year) but i just turned 24 so i dont know(i was induced then had emerg caesar with DS1 and elective with DS2 coz he was soo big)id love to go natural next time but i doubt that will happen after DS2 being 10ib 8oz

My aunty got her tubes tied and clamped after bub#6 and she fell pregnant with #7, so she had to get them cut and burnt

My twin sister is on it too. She had her period stop and has lost a LOT of weight. She had trouble with weight loss till she had it in.
She looks fantastic since going on it.

I'm in the same boat, I'm 27, DH is 28 and baby #4 is due in 6 weeks. I have been refused due to my age, yet I have had high risk pregnancies with all 4 babies. I have been advised to have the Minera, but I see it as a "band aid". DH has also been refused. We were told in order to have it done we would have to under-go psychological testing, both individually and as a couple, if we were sucessful with that we then had to have an interview with the Gyno, who can still refuse!! I personally think its crazy.....its my body I should be able to make the decision, however I do understand the legalities side to it.

you can have the option of getting cut and tied this is what i chose just to be sure as im having my 4th child im 32, i have a 5 year old girl (6 in oct), 4 year old boy and a one year old girl (2 in oct) so pregnancy again is not an option my dr was more then happy but if they said no hubby was going in, id tell the dr he can do it or youll find a dr that will mine is getting done when i have my c-section

Wow, you're one of the lucky ones, this was the last contraceptive I tried, had it in 4-5mths and got it taken out again. I have just had no luck with contraceptives, I get such bad side effects, that is the reason I made the decision about tubal ligation.

Now I thought I had until December for it to sink in, well had a call from the hospital and they have brought it forward to MONDAY!
Hey,
I'm 22 and my partner is 23, we have a 6yo son and one on the way (due 4n a half weeks) , i didnt actually want the second, it was all hubbys decision, but am glad that we're having him as its a playmate for son number 1. i definately dont want anymore after this one and i dont think its fair that doctors have so much of a say.
I asked my doc what he thought of hubby having a vasectomy n he said he'd do it seen as we have 2 already. i havent thought of having my tubes tied because theres more risk involved and is more costly, but seen as hubby doesnt want to get the snip and i dont wanna be on contraception till i hit menapause, i'm definately open to the whole having my tubes tied thing...
I have just had my thrid baby and at least 3 doctors asked me if I was getting my tubes tired after this baby (which was c-section)! I am only 24 and went to King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth. As I want one more my reponse was a definate NO. After my fourth baby I will definately take them up on their offer:)
