ADHD pre teen

MY almost 13 yr old was diagnosed with adhd at the age of 8 after me fighting for someone to look at him for over 3 yrs...
He started on Ritalin but I changed him due to the up and down of seperate tablets through out the day.
He has been on Concerta now for 2 years and I think that it may be contributing to his bad beahvior rather then preventing it.
He has been suspended for the last 4 days and for 3 of those hasn't had his tablet, his behavior has been remarkable, he hasn't had the attitude or mood swings, I gave him his tablet back yetserday and back came the attutide..I am going to take him off the tablet during the up coming holidays to see if it really dose make a difference, rather then doing it while he is at school...
MY QUESTION is...have any other mums noticed similar effects with their children while on concerta?..

Hi I don't know if it is too late to reply to this but I will give it a go .. My Lmost 8 year old was on Concerta for about 6 months and I took him off as of 1/1/12 to give him a break and to fatten him up a bit and have decided (with the pediatrician) to keep him off.

The Concerta worked very well in that he was able to concentrate, finish things he started, even his handwriting was neater but it definitely impacted on his personality. Like your son he was too moody on the short-acting Ritalin. Initially Concerta was like a wonder drug for my son but after a few weeks he became very emotionally volatile after school and a lot of attitude and between the hours of 4 and 5 I would be walking around on eggshells knowing that anything could set him off into a melt down. I found that he was much calmer and focused but lost a lot of his spirit as a pay-off and though he had an easier time of it in social situations, particularly in school, he was not as social anymore and didn't make any effort with adults.

So now school has started things are definitely interesting as he is extremely distracted. The pediatrician said that we will try him on Strattera if he has problems at school so we will just have to wait and see ...
