Just wanting to know whether it is possible for such a quick return to fertility.
Pregnancy straight after birth
Would like to know whether anyone has any stories about falling pregnant within the first month after birth, whilst breastfeeding.

You can't fall pregnant while their is Lochia discharge but don't know other than that. Usually the bleeding last's a few weeks.
I dont know anyone personally but I do remember my OB telling me that plenty of women have come back to him for their 6 week check up after the birth and revealed that they are pregnant again. Personally for me, after having stiches it was still a no go zone LOL

I know 2 people that both have had children 10 months apart. They both were told its not possible to fall so early after but they did!
I've heard of a month/6wks after birth falling pregnant, but I don't believe it would be easy for implantation straight after birth with the uterus shedding all that lining.
DS - Nov 2008 & DD - Feb 2012
my nieces are 11.5months apart so their mum concieved at 6 weeks after but ive never known anyone to concieve with the first month, but i guess its possible if locia has stopped.
Thanks for the replies smile
I have been worrying that it could be possible for myself, but figured it was extremely unlikely and perhaps even impossible. I don't plan on any more kids and my partner is booked in to have a vasectomy.
Breastfeeding offers more contraceptive protection that formula feeding doesn't it?

Don't rely on breastfeeding, My period returned 8 weeks after giving birth and I breastfed exclusively. Use some sort of protection if you're certain you don't want any more kids
i agree i withthe breastfeeding, its def not a sure contraceptive. i concieved DS whist feeding DD, i hadnt even had a cycle! i was bleeding on the mini pill at the time..so who knows how the hell that worked
the reason people say bf will stop you getting pregnant is because generally if a mum is bf exclusively the retern of their period will be delayed (as will ovulation) but that isnt a rule. def use something else if your set on no more little monkeys

Thanks!
My perid returned early with my other kids - my daughter was 5 weeks, my sons 3 months and 4 months I think... but I had discounted this time as the times seemed to be getting progressively longer each child.
Will just be more careful until vasectomy.
Thanks again smile

Yep, I know how you are feeling.
Gave myself a scare about 6 weeks after DD2 was born. We just both totally forgot about any contraception and I have NEVER done that before!!
Must have been the sleep deprivation smile
Anyhow, turned out I wasn't prgenant which was good for us, but it certainly freaked me out.

Lol. I didn't forget really, I just didn't think it was an issue so early. Plus the looming vasectomy gave me a false sense of security.
I have a dark, sinking feeling about this. But I figure the odds are in favour of me not even being fertile yet.
