Who's got a tattoo? Rss

I'm desperately wanting a tattoo and had it all planned out, picked a design, am totally in love with it, went and spoke to the tattoo artist, asked all the questions and checked out the place etc etc.

I was about to ring and book the appointment to have it done on Monday and then I remembered- I am severely allergic to hair dye!! (to the point that the doctor said, "Dye your hair again and you will go into anaphylactic shock and die.....). Now I'm too worried that I'll have some reaction to the tattoo ink to get it done!

Has anyone else had a nasty allergic reaction to a tattoo? It's not like I can go down and get a patch test done........! I'm so disappointed, I was soooooo excited to be getting my first tattoo but now I feel like it's too risky!
yikes!
i have tattoos & have never had an issue.

It would depend on exactly what it is that you are allergic to in the hair dye. I would check it out with the tattoo shop & get a break down of the ingredients in the ink & see if there is anything the same... until then, i wouldn't get it done - just in case... imagine having a reaction with a half done tattoo... eeek.
I have never had an allergic reaction to my tattoo.

If your really worried I would suggest telling the tattoist and see what they recommend. I know how exciting it is to get your first tattoo tongue but sometimes it's not worth the risk.

As I said though either ask the person doing your tattoo OR maybe a doctor as it could be only a certain ingredient that your allergic to and it may not be the same for the ink.
I would ask your doctor first hun
I have a few tatts and never had a problem I have to be careful about infection because my skin makes to little of something and I get infections easily like my blood test holes get infected soo annoying lol
The stuff in ink would be quite different I would imagine hun but you could go and get a dot done like on your ankle or upper leg to see what happens but I would double check with the doctor smile
I hope you can can get it done sweetie
I really don't think I can do it- I've even tried organic, mineral based hair dye and I still have a reaction so I'm pretty sure it's more than one ingredient in hair dyes that I'm allergic to. Can't narrow it down to any common ingredient so very wary about the tattoo.

Bummer!!!!!
I have never had any reaction to my tattoo's but I also don't react to hair dye. I would however think that they would be completely different and have different ingredients/components to them especially since hair dye is no where near as permanent. I would speak to the tattoo artist about the ink and see what they say.

I remember your post about your reaction do you know if it was henna you were allergic to as that what I think is in some tattoos

can you go to a skin specialist and ask to be tested if the tattoo is very important and ask specifically to be tested for it

I think henna tattoos are what the Indians do like the print they draw on there skin looks so pretty but washes off wink

Thanks darl, I did see that in my research but it doesn't help me feel any more confident about doing it <span class="emoticon wink">wink</span>

The tattoo I'm wanting has a purplish/blue colour so not the risky red but I'm not prepared to chance it.

Totally understand could you maybe get a piece of jewellery made that resembles what you want??
I too get a really severe allergic reaction to hair dye but I have 2 rather large tattoos on my back. One is all black and the other is coloured with lots of pinks, purples, blues and reds and I never had any reaction to them. I never even thought about it at the time so lucky really.

or you could see if the tattooist will do a print for you, most of them like doing art aswell.
