Hey,
im new to the forums, we are from New Zealand, my partner and i decided to sign up to seek some information and possibly some much needed advice from other parents on the forum.
We have a sticky situation at the moment, as we are a blended family, which i will explain below,
My partner and i are recently engaged and have known each other a good 8 years or so.
I have two children from two previous relationships (daughter 4years, son 1year )...
this is where the situation arises.
I have been locked in a two year Day-to-day care battle with the father of my daughter, which is now coming to a close, my daughter is older than my son and knows that my fiance is not her father,
so therefore does not call him her dad, but rather by his name.
her father has been scarce in her life, but has been around somewhat enough for him to be an influence in her life.
My son. this is a whole different kettle of fish, His biological father has never been around,he did not want him to begin with,
and showed little to no interest when he was born, i had to have him arrested while i was pregnant for threatening to assault me,
and damaging my house, after the birth of my son, he did sign the birth certificate when he was born, he has had very little contact (3 maybe 4 times) at the beginning with him at his own will,
my partner has been here for my children and i, and my son has grown up the last 6months to call him Dad and knows him as his dad,
my partner treats him as his own, i have recently contacted the biological father (he is now in Australia) to ask whether my partner could adopt, or if he would sign over his rights,
He has disagreed to this on the phone, and his reason is merely because its "his boy".
I really do not wish to have another lengthy costly court hearing, dragging our son through the court system,
as my daughter has had, i was wondering if anyone else here has had something along the same lines, and what the outcome was,
positive or negative, any advise ??? anything would be very much appreciated, it would give us an indictation on what we are getting ourselves in for.
Any replys would be appreciated smile
