Homemade finger paint!! Rss

Hi! This afternoon was so rainy and we couldn't go for our walk so I found this recipe on the net and wanted to share! I've wanted to do finger painting with DD for a while but just know everything ends up in her mouth but this worked really well (it did end up in her mouth and everywhere else but atleast i know there are no chemicals!!) and we had so much fun and have great artwork to show for it wink

Flour Finger Paint

1 cup flour
2 tbsp salt
1 1/4 cup hot water
1 1/2 cup cold water
Food coloring or tempera paint

Put flour and salt in a saucepan and add add cold water. Beat with a whisk or rotary beater until smooth. Add hot water and boil until mixture is thick. Beat until smooth. Keep in refrigerator and add food coloring as needed.

I don't know if this is old news but i'm still excited lol

ohh my god I sooo want to do it with DS I know he will love this and so will I THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH

My DDs are gonna love you lol

Oh yay, so glad you girls are as excited as i am!! it was awesome, i seperated it into four tubs and had red, green, blue and yellow and she was grabbing handfuls and putting them straight in her mouth lol It took a little encouragement to use the paper wink

I'm waiting for the art to dry and i'm turning one into a bday card for my sis, i know she will love it lol

Have fun smile

I have seen rolls of butcher paper before in discount stores but they dont always have it. Also if you know of anyone moving house ask them if they have any leftover packing paper.
I keep all the painings DS does and use them for wrapping paper. The family love it and it saves on buying it!
I'll have to try this one.

If you want a really quick home made paint just mix equal parts flour and water stir until smooth then add food colouring. I usually make a few table spoons at a time as needed. I have never used it for finger painting though it would probably work as it is reasonably thick.
thats pretty much how I make finger paint for DD, except I don't really use quantities, just mix flour and water until its the consistency I want and then just put whatever food colouring we want! its super quick and easy and cheap!!! they love it! smile
Also you can you Lux soap flakes, boiling water and food colouring or paint, beat it together with the beater, its so much fun!!!! however more of a texture thing than a painting thing =)
That awesome, so making some for my niece and nephew for tomorrow
Love this. I am going to give it a go with my 18 month old shortly. Also you can get huge rolls of paper from the kids section of Ikea if you happen to have one nearby...
About the paper, I rang my local newspaper office and asked them where they send/what they do with the end of the rolls of paper. They put me in touch with a company that sells it by the roll or as cut paper of different sizes. You pay by the kilo.
Hubby and I are so not ready for finger painting stage yet (baby's not fully cooked yet!) but I dig this and would never have thought of it. So thank you for posting this.
