tummy time is important from day 1 smile

Reading to your baby is really great - even though they dont know what you are saying they love the sound of your voice. Mem Fox books are great - my little man loves 'Where is the Green Sheep'. I have read this book to him since he was a newborn and he is now 19 weeks old.

I don't think you have to worry too much about it right now. Just enjoy your beautiful newborn and spend as much time as possible with her/him as before you know it they'll be 15 months and you'll wonder where the hell that year went LOL!!! laugh

You don't need to be doing any activities with your bub yet, tummy time is good for a short period of time, 3 day olds pretty much sleep eat and poo, you'll notice as he gets a little older he will become more alert and in no time you will start to get little smiles and giggles, follow your babies lead and you'll be fine

In a word, no.

Activity for a newborn is feeding, changing, wrapping, cuddling and sleeping.

I wouldnt be introducing tummy time at 3 days old.

The first few months are pretty much this in so far as activity, plus a whole lot of love.

When does tummy time generally start? I honestly don't remember you'd think after 2 kids i would but my brain must of went out in the bin with all the nappies LOL

At around 2 months old / when they begin to have a little head control and can lift their head.

Before that being cuddled or held upright against your chest or in a carrier is enough so that they are not laying flat on their back all the time.

Isn't that funny that i can't remember i'm sitting here laughing at myself and then just realised i can blame baby brain again so that's what i'm going to put it down to, i'm sure it will all start coming back to me in 6 months or so LOL, also my second had reflux so NEVER laid down through the day for her first 5 weeks, she used to scream all day unless i was holding her up until she wore herself out and would sleep for 7 hours at night and then we'd start again, and everyone kept telling me she was just a cuddly baby i thought i was going crazy for a little while there LOL until i cracked and went to my gp who straight away was yep reflux arrrhhhh i knew nothing about it before then. aaannnndddd i've gone a little off track hahahhaha

TUMMY time is not important from day one, its a myth, lots of cuddles and affection with mummy and daddy, lots of sleep, also baby gets enough tummy and neck strengthing from holding baby up over your shoulder with baby looking around the big wide world.

I think at 3 days old I would be focusing on developing a strong emotional bond with my baby & getting used to the basic cares such as feeding, changing nappies, sleeping, bathtime & lots of cuddles. Your baby will tire easily just from doing these activities & want to sleep aftrwards anyhow. Your baby (& you) will still be recovering from the birth & getting used to the big scary world so don't worry about scheduling in activities just yet. Enjoy being a new mummy & in a few weeks join a playgroup or have coffee with a friend to get to know some other new mums & socialise. Lie on the couch or bed & pull some silly faces at your baby. You could do alittle tummy time across your lap but I doubt your baby would have enough head control just yet. Don't get hung up on the big things just yet. Sounds like you are a very caring mummy & just want to do what is right by your new baby. Well done! grin
