Hi Lisa

I am fairly new to noveltey cake making too. Last year I also decided to make my daughter a Dora cake. We have a really great Cake decorating store not too far from us that hires out novelty cake tins. They had two different Dora tins but I decided that icing a cake to look like Dora was a bit above my experience level!! So what I did was hire a number tin (for her age) iced it pink and decorated it with some little Dora figures (that I bought at K Mart for about $10) and some lollies. She absolutely loved it and still plays with the figures!

Hope this helps. Good luck.
With the cake there are 3 options really - 1. make it all from scratch 2.make a packet cake or 3 buy a sponge and decorate it.

You can get some tins that are already dora and you just try and copy them but i find out here you cant hire any and they are expensive to purchase and only use once. So i would make a large square one (or buy one depending on what you want to do) get a piece of paper and cut out the shape of dora's head and use that as a guide to cut out your cake. Then you can ice it with normal butter icing (mixed in different colours and piped on so you get it in the right spots) or you can use different coloured fonants. Then you just use lollies/licorice/chocolate to decorate.

It doesnt really matter what it looks like at the end of the day...the kids will love it either way!!

As for recipes, what type of cake do you want to make? Sponge/chocolate/mud/marble?? Than i might be able to help you with recipes.
i'd buy a rectangle sponge cake from woolies or coles (unfilled). they are pretty cheap & yummy. find a stencil online (from a colouring website) & cut it out & lay it on the cake. cut around. decorate with icing. if you want to make all the lines on the cake use little icing tubs or ready made icing sheets. they are easy as. good luck!!
hi thank you for the reply i can hire the tim its around 15 dollers but i think i will have a problem with the icing what how to make it and how will i change it and how many food colouring should i put .. i really what to be a special day for her and will like to make it do u have any recipes or ideas that i can follow thank you
