major vent about family member Rss

i got told by a family member that they are suprised my not even three year old daughter is not toilet trained at night yet! this family member claims that my daughter is very smart for her age (that part was nice), but should have picked up night training by now. i didn't realise it was a developmental thing, i just assumed, the children will stay dry in their own time. my daughter has been day trained for 6 months, but wakes up so wet, and when i try to put nothing but knickers on her, she wakes up in a puddle of wee, which i don't think is nice for anyone to lay in. not to mention i am having to change, wash her sheets so many times and i am 34 weeks pregnant.
i just assumed she wasn't ready. when i told this to the family member (who keeps asking if she is dry during the night yet, their response is always harsh and says "well she is smart at everything else, why isn't she getting this!"
i am soooooo mad and upset, because sometimes, you fell like you can never do anything right. i though for a little girl who is not even three yet is doing pretty well for being day trained anyway.

there....sorry i have had my vent
My boy is 5 and still doesn't stay dry. It's ok, who is she comparing her to anyways. My dad always pays out on my son as my brother (his son) had no training wheels at 3, why aren't you like that??? I say stop trying to make turn out just like a no hope junkie addict, that's not a benchmark to aspire to. People that compare piss me off man!
Don't worry about it. Toilet training is nothing to do with how "smart" a child is. I think everyone on here could tell you that! She will get there in her own time.

If you want to try night training, you could start by waking her at 10-11pm as you are going to bed to use the bathroom then, and then hopefully she might last until the next morning without being so wet. But if you don't think she's ready then don't worry - lots of children are not trained yet at that age.

If you're finding it difficult to change the sheets, have you tried Brolly Sheets? I bought one for my DD, but she actually has managed to stay dry so far every night that she has gone to bed without a nappy (5 nights so far) so I can't tell you if they're effective or not! But it's a waterproof piece of sheet that you lay on top of the fitted sheet, the idea being that if the bed is wet you only need to change that part and not all of the sheets.
I must be a mass failure then my 2.5 year old is still not toilet trained at all. Don't listen to her she sounds like one of those typical judgemental people whose children or herself are 'perfect!'

Shows how little this person knows about toilet training and as a PP said, it is not about how smart a child is.

My just turned 3 year old has been day trained for 6 months but wears a night time nappy and most time wakes up soaked - my eldest child was night trained by 3. They are all different and will get there in their own time. There's nothing wrong with your DD, she's perfect smile
So does this family member have perfect children do they? Its ridiculous thinking that a child has to be night toilet trained by 3. Admitting something embassing, I wasnt night toilet trained till 5! I was such a deep sleeper that once I was in bed I stayed there. Unless there is a medical problem no one is still wetting the bed as an adult so I wouldnt worry if I were you. (Also, this is a pretty good place to vent.... wish it had an area for other family members who drive you mad! LOL)

relax,

Here is Queensland Australia, Day cares dont even attempt to tt kids until they are 2 years and 7 months.

I was lucky DS decided he didnt want to wear nappies at night just before x-mas. he hasnt wet the bed yet. before that he almost always drenched his nappy. so i agree with you, they night tt in their own time. btw he was day tt at 1 year, 6 months, so it took him just under a year so give it time smile

I wet the bed at night until I was 12 years old!

(Not every night but at least every few weeks or so)

DD has been toilet trained for a month or so now and although she stays dry during day sleeps I will not be attempting night time for a long time yet. Someone once told me they need to wake up dry for 3 weeks straight before they're ready.

Ignore your ignorant family member!!
