Microtia birth defect

On the 13th Jan 2012 I gave birth to a very handsome lil man who is an absolute delight to have in our lives. He was born with only 1 ear his other 1 hasn't developed properly pretty much there is no opening and very little ear. His hearing seems to be great. I was just wondering if there are any other families whose babies have the same thing and how are they doing now?

I taught a little boy with this last year. He did very well at school, the hearing in one ear only didn't seem to make any difference in the classroom, he was a popular little kid and a delight to teach.

A family friend has this, he's in 40s now and it doesn't affect him. He's led a normal life. Only thing is when I was little I'd go to whisper something to him and had to be on the right side smile

My daughter was just diagnosed yesterday with hemifacial microsomia and has a very mild microtia but it only effected the cartliage on top not the actual inner ear.
Have you been given details of what will happen regarding hearing etc?

Hi! I just seen ur post - my son was born on May 15th with a very underdeveloped left ear.. I haven't really had any appts with the hospital yet, however have our first audiologist appt in a couple of weeks.. Not really too sure what we're in for in terms of how bad it is etc.. But a very sad time - still trying to figure out how to deal with it.
