Reflux/Neocate/Allergy/Not Sleeping advice appreciated Rss

Good Monday morning.

My DS is now 4 weeks old. He hasnt been sleeping well last couple of weeks and been spilling a fair bit and seems to get sore tummys on the Nestle HA formula which he was on to try prevent allergies which run in the family.

Took to doctors last thursday, doc gave us 2 tins of neocate to try and give him a break as he thinks its allergies.

After the 2 tins (just started 2nd tin - each tin 3 days) we are to try the lactose free formula and see if he settles on that then if not we will have to go back on neocate and maybe try pepti-junior aswell.

We are at 3.5 days on neocate and his sleep has been getting worse, last night I had 3 hours broken sleep and thats been the average all weekend. Just me up during the night so im absolutely exacusted and cant sleep during day with 3year old.

I am 100% sure he has reflux symptoms, ive been up so much I have been watching and hearing it all weekend, for around a good 2 hours after he has had his feed, he wants more milk but then he spills even more. His actuall spilling coming out has gone down but is increasing again, im wondering if this is because he hasnt been poos in over 2 days but when it doesnt come out you can still see the pain its causing and I just about get him to sleep and it happens and wakes him up at one stage I stood at his bassinet for 2 hours during the night with my hand just on him trying to get him to sleep. I feel like Im fighting a lost cause. The doctor didnt want to give anything but the neocate to avoid the other stuff interfering with a positive outcome. 2 tins is going to be around 6 days of neocate, I just read on their website it takes upto 14 days for reflux to go.

If you have used neocate is what we are going through sound normal for this early?

How long did it take for the reflux to go?

He does seem a bit happier the rest of the time and his tummy seems less hard, it was hard as a rock last week while at doctors, its a bit firm at moment but thinking that is just from not doing poos.

Is it common to get constipation on neocate and what is the best natural way to get this relieved without interfering with the doctors plan of just using the neocate. He doesnt even want us using the karicare thickner to try and keep it down although that wouldnt solve all the problems as most of the refluxing is not coming up you can just hear it and see it, it makes him choke and takes his breath away and makes him cry in pain.

I want to sort long term and not put a sticky plaster over the top so to say but dont know how long I can keep going on basically no sleep im worried my PND returns I was doing so well just need to get this food and sleep sorted and i think if we sort the food and reflux the sleep will just happen. My nearly 4 year old daughter is also being an extreme handful at the moment just to add to it. I had a c-section with him and had a painful recovery a week ago was doing better but after standing so much and rocking and up and down to him all night lately im very sore again, my legs and back just ache and hurt and my tummy where cut and uterus is hurts and is uncomfortable feels like its swoollen a bit like I was at end of week 2 begining week 3.

Any help much appreciated, Ive got 30mins till can phone and speak to nurse
Hello,

I probably can't help you but just wanted to offer my sympathy to you. My DS is 4 weeks old too and is doing the same things your DS is doing. I'm breastfeeding my DS so I can't offer any advice on the allergies or the neocate formula.

I went to my GP on Thursday and he has put him on Zantac. I've already noticed a difference already. He still brings up milk but he's not in the pain that he was. I can now feed him during the night and settle him rather quickly and boy o boy - I finally can get a little more sleep. I was beside myself with lack of sleep - lucky to get 2-3 hours during the night. My DS seems much more settled and happier now.

I don't know for certain DS has reflux or colic and I hate him being on medicine so young - hate it!!! But it does seem to be helping him. I have to go back to GP in 10 days time.

Is there another doctor you can see?

Feeling for you - you're not alone xo
Hello,

My DD was the same as your DS since we got home from hospital. She would breastfeed for hours at a time then cry hysterically until she wore herself out. The doctors where I live kept telling me she would grow out of it but at 7 weeks I took her to a pediatrician. She was diagnosed with allergies and reflux and has been on Neocate and Zoton suspersion since (now 11 months).
I didnt want her on medication but she was in so much pain and always constipated we had to do something. It took probably 2 weeks for everything to kick in and she turned into a different baby and I finally got some sleep as she also started sleeping through the night.
Reflux is something they need to grow out of so nothing will cure it so to speak. We tried taking DD off Zoton at 6 months but she wasnt ready so we will try again when she starts walking. The Neocate being hypoallergenic is meant to be very gentle on their stomach and not cause constipation but having changed your DS's formula recently he may need time to adjust or something else could be going on.
I know its expensive but if you can I would take DS to a pediatrician.
Hope you get some relief soon smile
