Prem- Early babies, subsequent births...

Hi,

I had our baby at 30 weeks gestation, a tiny 3pd 9oz. We were in hospital 5 and ahalf weeks.

We're planning on trying for number 2 soon. Anyone who has had a prem 1st time, what happened with your second pregnancy? Did yo go longer ??

Sorry I can't answer you question, but also interested in any replies.
I also had my DD at 30 weeks, and she was 1016g (2pd, 2oz!), we spent 12 weeks in NICU.

our first was prem - not as prem as your wee one though.

I guess it depends on the reasons for the prematurity, we found that while our first born was early, the rest were all close to full term

#1 born at 35 weeks, 2890g
#2 born at 39w 4d, 4460g
#3 born at 38w, 4600g
#4 born at 39w 3d, 4040g
#5 born at 39w 3d, 4880g

They have told me my next pregnancy will 99% be another prem. Spoke with my MW and she said soon as I find out I am preg she will book a specialist for us. Hope your next baby is bigger than your last. We were very fortunate that our baby breast fed early and put on weight. Ammazing baby Neonatal said. Especially being 10 weeks early and only being in hospital 5 1/2 weeks. So perhaps you may need a specialist too? They gave me no reason as to why she came early. She just arrived that fast they couldnt stop it happening. Im glad to know the specialist is fully funded!

I had no warning that I was going to have her, until I was transferred to another hospital (level 3 unit)! So was a shock, and then I had and Eclamptic Seizure etc etc so I was put on life support in ICU. So I didn't get to see her for days, and then I had no milk. Which meant she wasn't able to start milk, but once started she couldn't tolerate it! So in the end she had to go on Human Milk Fortifier + a hormone to get her to gain some weight, but still struggling now!
And yep, I will have a specialist too, but really hope that I carry a bit longer this time smile

I had my first daughter at 29 weeks (1250g) without any warning, they discovered i had a bicornate uterus. They gave me high chances of having another premie and breech, my second daughter was born at 39 weeks via c-section and all was well, they did keep a very close eye on me the second time around. Every pregnancy is different, and always follow up with the doctor if you have any concerns, good luck with your next baby smile

My first born Ds was born at 41 weeks - Normal delivery.
My second Born DD Was born at 33 weeks but my waters ruptured at 29 weeks and i was popped into icu for 4 weeks until i could safely deliver - In the end at 33 weeks my placenta abrupted and i had a clot underlying the placenta.
Im now 7 weeks preg with #3. Anxious to see how i fair :S

will let you all know in another 23/30 weeks! LOL

Hi there, did they give you a reason for the premature birth?
i had my first at 29 weeks, am now pregnant with 2nd and have been on bed rest since 23 weeks as have had threatened pre term labour 5 times. I am now 31 weeks and if i don't go back into labour again will be having a c section at 34 weeks. I have had 2 rounds of steroids and came off nifedipine at 28 weeks.
my problem is I have 2 uterus's and i am now pregnant in the opposite one that my first was in, which is smaller and has limited access. although we had a rough ride with the first there is no way i could have foreseen the struggle we have gone through this time, mentally, emotionally and physically. All i can say is just prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Im glad i found this topic as i was just about to post the same question. I had my baby boy at 34 weeks... we were lucky to make it that far sad Anyway we are trying for number 2 and im very worried about it happening again. I had everything go wrong in the pregnancy and most of the things my obgyn told me would come back again in pregnancy. We havent upgraded our priv health this time so im also worried about the public system and not being able to just call my obgyn etc.

I had my daughter 8 weeks prem and it took us 9 months to conceive. When she was 8 months old we decided to try for another one and got pregnant straight away tongue My second pregnancy was going really well until I went into preterm labour at 28 weeks. I was put on strict hospital bed rest and only allowed to get out of bed to use the toilet and shower. After 5 weeks on hospital bed rest I was allowed to go home but on bed rest. I was readmitted 2 weeks later for preterm labour again and admitted to hospital for 3 days and then sent back home to bed rest. I managed to keep Bub #2 in until 38 week which was fantastic as I got to take him home with me. He only weighed 2.5kg so they just had MCH come over every second day to weigh him. i had baby 1 and 2 at 38 weeks, so they were full term.

with baby 3, at 29 weeks my waters broke, I was kept in hospital and 1 week later i had alot of bleeding and then a 3 hour labour. Bub was born in the placenta sac and had to have it torn open to get her out. The docs didnt know that the placenta detached. We were lucky it was such a short labour, if she was without oxygen any longer it could have been bad. She spent 6 weeks in scn.
the docs could give no reason for it and said its just one of those things that happens and there isnt the research into it yet to work out why.

i was told each time you have a premmy your chances increase the next time that you will have another premmy.

with baby 4, i had alot bleeding at 35 weeks. I was taken by ambulance to hospital. after a relatively short labour, i had bubs. they said the placenta had lifted. bub spent 2 nights in scn.

if i go for bub 5, my chances of having another premmy are even higher.

Hi I am in the same situation. My daughter was born at 34 weeks and I am now pregnant with number 2 I'm abit anxious to see what will happen with this little one. Hope he/she doesn't some tooooo early!!!
