36 week delivery
I may be having our baby at 36 weeks which is 3 weeks time for us.. I have an irritable uterus and have been in and out of hospital since 16 weeks and now on slow release 30mg nifedapine every 4 hours and have had the celastone steroids for her lungs. My other two were full term and fed well from day one so Im at a loss of what to expect with one born so early... will she be ok??
It sounds from the precautions that are being taken she will be fine! A lot of babies are born at 37ish weeks anyway and by then a baby is considered full term. I don't know a lot about babies that come early not having had one myself, but through friends and family I know that the things that they need help with at that gestation are learning how to suck and regulating their body temperature. Good luck meeting your little girl!
At 36 weeks bubs should be fine! She may need to stay in hospital for a week or two depending on her size/ feeding etc... She will probably be small, have some minor feeding issues (not knowing how to suck), be a little jaundice and a little bit sleepier then usual, over all though the chances of any major issues will be minimal.
ETA: DD1 was born at 32 weeks so this information is from what I saw of the bubs born closer to term.

DD was born at 36 weeks. She was born 6'11 and for being born at 36 weeks was very healthy. Feeding wise she had no sucking reflex so for the first 3 days feeding hurt alot. Once she could though never had any feeding troubles. She did have jaundice and low blood sugar but by feeding her 3 hourly we didn't need to top her up with formula. Good luck hope it all goes well.
I had my DD2 at 36 weeks.I just went into labour.I was scared and very nervous but everything was fine. The midwives get telling me how skinny she was going to be,but she shocked everyone and weighed 7 pounds. She is 2 now and is small.
She fed well, breathed on her own and was in hopsital for 4 nights. They did monitor her abit more than a full term baby, probably more for a precaution. She needed no medical intervention and spent the whole time in my room with me.
Try not to stress and worry I'm sure everything will be ok.
Goodluck smile

im just stressing because i want to do the best for her and at the same time I am in so much pain from daily constant contractions its so hard.. I am on 30mg nifedapine four times a day and 10mg in between if the contractions ramp up.. and coedine at night to stop the pain and help me sleep... how long can you ideally go on like that for?
Hello, our first born was born at 32w0d, didn't have time to get any steriod shots or anything, she was in a hurry to get out!! She weighed 1.6kg (3p10o)and she was absolutely fine, screamed when she was born even! She did go into respiratory distress after that but after only 2 days on CPAP was breathing well without it. A bub born at 36weeks will probs even go home with you. My Mum had my brother at 36 weeks, he was 2220g when he went home at 4 days old. Good luck!
I should add, our daughter was in NICU for one month, unable to breast feed, so was tube fed by OG tube at first and then by NG tube. She didn't learn to breast feed until she was 35w5d gest (it was amazing - like a switch had flicked - the day before she couldn't and then all of a sudden she could!), and then came home 3 days later at 36w1d. Apparently around the 36w gestation mark is the 'magic' age for establishing the sucking reflex.
36 w is fine from what Ive been told any time after 36 weeks is fine hubby was born at 34 he is fine I was 38 bit later) Im fine lol Im hoping mine comes at like 37-38 dont stress they wouldnt induce u if they didnt think it was safe
She is only going to be 1 weeks early as 37 weeks is considered full term.
Our DD was born at 37 weeks by c-section due to my spine problems, i got a couple of steriod shots to strenthen her lungs. She came out with an apgar of 9. She was fine. Her sucking reflex wasn't as good as what i would of liked but she didn't need any formula. She was a little jaundice but so can babies born at 40 weeks.
Idealy it would be good if you could keep her in there for 1 more week but if its not possible at all then she will be fine and will be monitored.
