Lactose Free formula Rss

Can anyone recommend a good Lactose free formula, please?
My daughter is 5 weeks old and having troubles, we had her on Novolac stage 1 then onto Novolac for Colic, because it was suggested that she might not be making enough of the enzym that breaks down the Lactose, that still did not help so we have put her onto S26 Lactose free, she is better that she was but still suffering with very bad wind...But now she seems to be having trouble going No;2's, She is going on average once a day but its really hard work and she has to work on it all day!! Wondering if it might not be the best formula?
Any thoughts will be appreciated, Its just so cruel to see her in so much pain with this and the wind!!
I used Karicare delac with my now two year old son. It seemed to work for him. I stopped using it at one - he is now ok with small amounts of normal cows milk but if has too much reacts. However first of all I would suggested that you go to your doc to check to see if she is indeed lactose intolerant or she may have a milk protein allergy which is very different to lactose intol. And there are special formulas for that too. Doc should referr you to specialist who can check both out. Also check if she has reflux - which is very common in babies with both of these conditions. There is a great website www.reflux.org.au
that tells you about reflux, lact intol and milk protein allergies.
Good luck
Hi

Not sure from your post if you've actually had a medical diagnosis of lactose intolerance or not... by a stool sample that is.

S26 does have a reputation for causing constipation so it may be that its too rich for your baby.

I think its best seek medical advice rather than chopping and changing formulas, what works for other babies may not work for yours.
I use s26 for lactose intolerant babies.
i figured out my daughter was lactose at 8 weeks, when she was having breast and one bottle at night. she would have runny dark green poos and it would smell revolting, with lots of gas and rashes.
Since i changed her to the lactose formula, and started having soy milk etc her poos r fine and no rashes, and a hole lot happier.
if u want to talk to a doctor first, but i got her diagnosed my her nurse nanna and all her work mates.
hello i highly reccomend using kariecare goat milk based formula. i used to use S26 gold but i started doing some research about cows milk formulas and the short and long term effects it can have on some babies and scared the crap out of me so i changed. and my little girl is thriving and loves the taist and it seems to agree with her tummy 100% better than cows milk formula. its a little bit more expensive but it lasts a few days longer than the S26 gold. good luck smile
Hi, I always used Karicare Delact and we found it to be great! I didn't like the S26 one either, and the Karicare one seemed to be much easier to get. Hope this helps! smile
Hi people i have tried S26 LFree, and its making her very consitpated what else is there i dont want to use Soy as the say there is no goodness left and apparently bad for infertilty in later life. THANKS
My bub is on Karicare soy which is lactose and sucrose free and he has not long had his MCH nurse check and he weighs 11 kgs (75th percentile). It depends on the child too I had tried s26 soy but it didn't help him at all.
But my lil one has been on the Karicare one for the last proabably 10 months and he isn't fading away. smile

Hi there. Its so hard when your little one is uncomfortable isn't it?! My DS also had a lactose intolerance and silent reflux. I always used the S26 lactose free too, it was cheaper than Karicare and you needed fewer scoops so it lasted longer. However, S26 is now being manufactured in Singapore so I personally refuse to buy it. Karicare is made in New Zealand...

Formula in general can cause constipation and it often takes several days for their tummies to adjust to any changes. I agree that you should definitely have a comprehensive chat to baby nurse or doctor.

Good luck with your baby girl, I hope you find a solution that works for you both
Hi!

We had the sameissue with our son at 2 months. As they didn't know whether he was lactoseintolerant or had a milk allergy, he was prescribed a hypoallergic formula,Neocate. Absolutely foul - but he seems to enjoy it! Better than my milk whichwas making him sick anyhow! At around 10 months we moved him on to KaricareSoy, and now he is on plain soy milk.

A good idea to chat to your doctor andsee what they recommend. Good luck!

i use lactose , watever ya call it tongue
