Anyone else find manual&electric pumps useless?? Rss

As my son is lactose intolerant and has milk protein allergy I was advised to supplement one of his feeds with Soy formula and express the feed he misses. Add that sometime this year I would like to go back to work and I have an impossible situation. I bought a manual pump to try which I got approx 10mls...that was both sides! So on advice I went and bought an electric pump(Avent) to which I have had similar luck. I have tried using hot towels..having baby close by..expressing after a hot shower but I get very little...usually no more than 30mls and thats in the morning...at night..NOTHING but a few drops. I have taken to expressing by hand but that too doesnt give me much...takes abt 40minutes to get 30mls on a good day. Im tired and really need help with this. Baby feeds every 3 hours and it settled/content until his next feed and when he comes off he always has a mouthful of milk...so its there but I just cant get to it..lol HELPPP
Hello smile
I just posted this in another thread now... I have the Medela electric pump and it is really good. I would fill a bottle really quickly. But as I said I'm not sure how much they are here. I bought mine with money given to me from colleagues when I went on Maternity leave.
That's perfectly normal pumping output. Women seem to have this expectation that you should be able to pump 100ml+ with no problems and the truth is that 100ml+ a session is extremely abnormal pumping output.
10-20ml a session from both breast is perfectly normal. It was weeks before I was getting 90ml from one breast per session, pumping twice a day, and sometimes I had sessions where I was lucky to get 10ml...again all perfectly normal.

Having said that, some women just can't build up to that sort of output no matter how long they pump for. You can add sessions together, freeze in smaller amounts etc.
