very windy baby Rss

I have a 4 week old boy who at the 2 week mark developed a red pimply rash around his eyes and across his nose and was in severe pain with wind after each feed,despite him burping and farting really well; (Could feel his stomach which is hard and ball like). I changed his formaula from NAN HA to Karicare Aptamil gold + HA. The spots cleared up overnight and a significant improvement in his wind situation. However since this saturday afternoon (21/4) the wind has increased back to what is was and in gradually getting worse. After every feed his stomach is hard and and you can see he is in pain due to his facial expressions, it takes a couple of hours to settle post each feed with it being worse at night (during the day more settled). We have tryed numerous remedies other than patting and rubbing his belly which include warm baths, drink of warm sugar water and he has been having infants friend drops prior to each feed since 2 weeks old. Remains burping and farting well through out. In discussion with nurse over the phone it could be just him deleloping or that he is ? lactose intolerant. However in reading up on the intolerance it doesnot sound like he has the usual symptoms.
Has anyone got any suggestions worth trying to relieve wind pain? and any thoughts on the lactose intolerance.
I had similar troubles with my DS and can sympathise with you! I never tried it, but the midwife suggested to me to put them to sleep on their stomach and then move them onto their back once they are asleep. Apparently the pressure on their stomach helps relieve the pain and get rid of any wind. You can also try moving his legs in a circle like motion as if he is riding a bike. That's meant to help as well.

My DS is now 10 weeks old and for the last couple of weeks has been much better. I hope you have similar luck!!
Thanks Amanda for your suggestions.
Think my little boy is going to be a great cyclist and/or have great abs with the amount of sit ups he is also doing.
He loves sleeping on his belly, however when turning him over always manages to wake up and we start all over again, has a thing about sleeping on his back - just doesn't like it and fights with the blankets as hates being wrapped as well!
Drs tomorrow to get checked out that nothing else is going on, hopefully not, and that I'll just have to persist until he grows out of it.
We experienced a windy baby with our first. Besides using Infacol before feeds we found other words of advice really helpful, hopefully some of these may relieve your bub:

1. Tilt baby's bed up a little towards his head, by sticking towels or something like that, the aim is to avoid having them lying flat on their back - I'm a bit scarred to lay a baby on their tummy at that age;

2. Burp bub half way during the feed and then at the end of the feed, the more they burp the less pain they will have;

3. Place bub over your arm with his tummy on your arm (he's facing down) and give him a gentle massage;

4. Place an ironed teatowel on his tummy, the warmth is very soothing.

Goodluck.
