my ds is 9 weeks, i bled for 4 weeks after his birth and my period returned when he was exactly 6 weeks and it was probably the heaviest period i have experienced and the longest lasted for 9 days. then the last couple of days ive had light bleeding. has anyone else experienced this??? should i be worried about retained afterbirth? or is this kind of normal???
when did your periods return to a 'normal' cycle?

I bleed for 6 weeks then had nothing for another 5. I think it can be quite normal to have heavy periods especially after birth. Mine were all over the place. And then i went on the pill and theyve regulated themselves now. I had bleeding in between too (but i think that was due to my body getting use to the pill again.) It takes awhile even without the pill for periods to get back to normal. For the best advice i would just ask the doctor though smile

I am currently enduring my 4th or 5th 'proper' period, and they are killing me. I used to take naprogesic (still breastfeeding now) and the first 2 days are so heavy. They are worse since having baby.
I would go to the Dr if your not sure. I had some spotting every few weeks for a few months and my Dr said it was my period returning. No harm in asking.

I've been wondering the same thing DD2 is 10 weeks old and I still haven't had a period (I'm not breast feeding). I can't remember when they returned with DD1, but i'm sure it was quicker than this.
Tricky topic! I would ask my doctor I think, just for peace of mind. Or do you have a check up for bub scheduled with a midwife where you can ask?
Think I had probs for 2-3 weeks after the birth and then no period til DD was 10 months then no period again because I fell pregnant again at 11 months!
I do remember the dr saying that because the birth was straightforward I should only bleed for a week or so after birth, but extenuating circumstances meant I had to be driving around/walking/standing too much after birth to give myself proper recovery, which he said prolonged recovery. Have you been able to just relax and take it (sort of!) easy?

Oh my! I exclusively breastfed my DD till she was 5months and kept b/feeding after that.
My sycles only came back when she was 11 months smile I loved the break!

i bled for the first 6 weeks then i got my period 4 weeks later when bub was 10 weeks old smile went on the mimi pill then 2 weeks later got them again smile

With my first daughter I got my period back when she was 11 months old (I breastfed until 9 months). With my second daughter I breastfeed until 13 months and then got my period back one week after stopping feeding. I guess I am lucky to not have periods for so long!
Are you using contraception? What kind? The mini pill, IUD's and implanon can all cause irregular bleeding and it's not actually a period. I bled heavily for 11 weeks after my daughter was born and then when it stopped I had a mirena inserted and then spotted/bled nearly everyday for another 3 months! It was the hormones in the mirena that caused the bleeding and the mini pill can do the same.
