Modern Cloth Nappies

Hi everyone,

So I've decided to use MCN's this time round with my baby boy who is due in January. I am just trying to get my stash of nappies ready for when he is born. I have ordered quite a few off facebook for really great prices from WAHM's. But I have just recently been told about sunbaby nappies, and have ordered some, I got 12 pocket nappies with 24 inserts for $78 including postage from China! I have heard good things about these nappies, but my question is: Has anybody used these nappies and what are your experiences with them? Have they worked for you? Did you experience much leakage etc? Just any imput you guys have would be great!! Also please share which are your favourite nappies and which you would recommend, thanks in advance ladies!!!!

I love MCN's. I have bought most of mine from ebay (not from china though) from a seller called littleripple. Yes they leak sometimes, but all nappies do occasionally! I've always used a disposable for night time and I used huggies newborns for the first 3 weeks after DD was born.

Well done for going with cloth nappies. Way better for your pocket and the environment.
I have bought various brands of MCN's after having a horrible start with terry squares and useless covers. As with most things you do get what you pay for. I guess being February you've had bub and have found out if they work or not. The quality of the PUL can vary greatly. I have nappies that are still OK after 4 years of use because they were made from top quality PUL. I bought some off e-bay that were useless to start with. Whilst you may gasp at the thought of paying $30 for each nappy you can buy a nappy that will fit from birth to toilet training and last and be made in Australia by another mum that cares about your bub. I am guessing that the inserts you got are microfibre. They will be fine on a newborn but won't be absorbent enough as bub grows and does bigger wees. Bamboo fleece is my choice. In my experience it lasts the best and is the most absorbent. It does take the longest to dry but nothing is perfect smile. I found hemp went smelly quickly and wore out. Microfibre is excellent as a night-time booster (in a pocket, microfibre should never go against bubs skin as it will suck the oils out).

I got some decent microfibre boosters off ebay (i got 10 for $20) and use them instead and it has solved all my problems of leaking. I would definately recommending doing that. They still do work out as a cheaper alternative.

I agree that you need to double up on liners or use a booster. They are definitely cheaper than going for baby beehinds or similar

I'm glad I found this thread. I'm going to use mcns for my 2nd bub and there are so many out there! I think so far I like the little ripple ones. Any other recommendations welcome though smile

I have 2 sorts of mcn's, sunnybaby which I've used from about 8mths to now (13mths) and during the day they're fine, I find they last the same length of time as the other ones I have. The boosters do seem thinner though, as proven when I used them at night - 3 boosters didn't cut it. I also have My Baby brand mcn's and they're great as well, I've used them since 4 weeks, and at night since about 7mths. No leaks with either of them, except for when I've left the nappy a bit too long between changes - but that can happen whether or not your using cloth. No poo leaks though.
