Wrap, Sling or front pack? Rss

Morning All

Well I've hit the second trimester (huge big sigh of relief) and now we're starting to do all the purchasing of baby stuff, yay!
There are so many options out there and I need a bit of help. Baby slings, wraps or front back for newborns?
Friends all have different opinions and now I'm going to confuse myself even more with all your opinions smile What have people used before? I don't like the idea of a sling yet some people RAVE about them (I'm scared I'll suffocate baby) a wrap seems brilliant as theres no buckles etc but the front pack seems safer. Opinions please smile
I had a baby bjorn for dd1 and ds and i thought it was ok. i have an ergo with dd2 and would highly recommend it!! I havent ever tried the slings.
I had a baby bjorn for DS and it was ok but did hurt my back a fair bit. I've heard the ergos are Good.

I tried my friends sling and both my newborn and I hated it.

So I suggest you don't actually buy anything until baby is here. Then borrow from friends to see what you like the fit of before you buy. Its not an essential item you need to get before your baby is here.

I used a front pack from 2 months on. Before that I found my babies to small to fit in comfortably.

To be honest I hardly used it with my first as it was just as easy to use a pram or carry her. But I used it plenty with my second when needing hands free to deal with a toddler was more important.
I agree with the above post. I didn't use anything much for my first but with this one I've used my sling heaps.

I have a ring sling. I really love it. If worn correctly it's really comfy and my bub has been in it from newborn and now sitting up facing forward. She loves it.

It's a personal choice but my bubs are small and don't like the front packs and the sling is super easy and quick to put on. Probably wouldn't use it if you were walking around all day wearing it but for my trips to the shops for an hour or 2 it's fine.

well it really depends what you want them for.

a front pack such as a baby bjorn is bad for their spine as it puts pressure on their lower vertebrae. By the time their spine is sufficiently developed to withstand the pressure, they have outgrown it. Use an ergo with an infant insert instead. It can still be used as a front pack except it supports their spine correctly and the bonus is you can use it right through toddlerhood. I carried my 4 year old around france in it.

wraps are great, but can be awkward if you are just running into the shops. They are good to make a small baby secure and are great for wearing at social functions.

ringslings are great as something very quick to put on. I also found it handy to sit my 1 yr old on my hip while cooking as it gave me 2 free hands.

in terms of suffocation, you shouldn't have a babies face covered and you should be able to see them at all times. Don't buy some dodgy cheap sling. the suffocation deaths you see in the paper could have been avoided. the last one the sling was worn under a jacket blink the story before that the "sling" was essentially like an old school hessian backpack where the baby lays in the bottom of it.... both very unsafe.

It shouldn't hurt your back if worn correctly and your bubs should be secure in it. there are many videos on the internet as to how to use them correctly. you tube it and type in the carrier you are interested in.

Also, try before you buy!

what she said grin lol

i tried a sling with my DD and we both hated it i just couldnt get it comfy no matter how i put her in and DH hated it too.

i didnt get anything with DS but with DS2 we have a baby bjorn because i found it had the best support for my lower spine ( i have back problems) but as OC said they arnt so good for bubs spine so i only use it time to time and for short periods. i normally use the double pram for DS and DS2 and DD walks
I have a hugabub, not sure if you have seen them, but basically the baby is at the front against your body. I love, love, love it & so does my DD. Regarding suffocation, I just turn DD head to the side & put a dummy in, so I know that she wont turn her face into me with the dummy in. I use it for grocery shopping & if we're going out cos I know that she will be settled cos as soon as she's in it she goes straight to sleep. I can't rave about it enough!
One word... Ergo!
