recommended baby slings?
just looking for a baby sling so I can have my hands free occasionally for dd when ds arrives soon. wondering what brands people would really recommend. The one I originally loved I decided would be tough to get on by myself (can't remember the brand) so have been looking at the bubzilla but havn't read overall good things about them. anyone had a sling they'd really recommend??

I have a baby bjorn which is fantastic. looks like theres no way your going to work out how to get it on, but it is actually so simple. I also have the monkey (can;t remember exact name) sling, but I found this a little awkward to get baby into, mind you I haven;t tried it since she was a baby you can change it as they grow.
the one I was looking at was very very similar to the baby bjorn and your right it looks like I'd never get it on, but atleast it looks very supportive of baby! thanks smile
Hi,
I have the ergo baby carrier and it's great. The twins loved being in it. Very comfy and I have abad back and never gave me any back pain when carrying them.
Good luck choosing.

Is it a sling or carrier you're after? Baby bjorn style carriers don't allow for good positioning for your baby and aren't very good for the development of babes pelvis and spine, I would stay away from them. If you're after a carrier you need to look for one that supports baby's bum so they are in a sitting position and their legs can bend (frog-style). Haven't used one myself, but the ergo always gets lots of positive feedback smile
If it's a sling you're wanting then there are really are so many different styles and ways of wearing it's a good idea to try a few if you can to get an idea of what you like. I have peanut shell that I use most, but I've found most people don't like that style, but I find it really comfortable and it was the least daunting when I first started babywearing because it doesnt require any adjustments.

Are you thinking of a Hug-a-Bub? Or a Mei-tai?
How long do you think you might wear the baby for? If you think it might be quite a while, I'd try and make an investment and go with a soft structured carrier like Ergo or a Manduca.
I have an Ergo, but if I had my time over and had known about them when we got the Ergo I think the Manduca would have won....though only just. The Manduca is slightly more 'flexible' and has the infant insert built in, whereas with the Ergo it's separate. I've worn DS2 twice in the past few days and he's nearly 4.5 and it was a godsend when we went to the UK last year when he was 3.5 when transiting through airports and the like.
Where in NZ are you? There are 'baby wearing' groups out there that might enable you to try on a few carriers first to see what might work for you before you go out and buy...or they have 'libraries' where you can hire carriers. Slingbabies is the most well known of these groups.

I doubt I'd wear baby past 8-9months, I was looking at snuggle bug which I believe is very similar to the moby or hug a bubs, I havn't decided on carryer vs sling, I think I like the idea of sling more as its less intimidating to put on, some of them look soo confusing, although definitely more supportive of bubs! hmm still at the drawing board I think. thanks guys smile
Love the Ergo. Use it with my 8mth old and 2 year old.
The Heart-to-heart infant insert is alot easier to use than the older infant insert.
A negative would be I found there was a short period (6 weeks perhaps) when the bubs were too long-legged for the infant insert, but not big enough to stretch their legs around me without it.
The positive would be that its easy to use and can be used front and back. I have used for anything between a newborn in insert on front to a 3 year old on my back. Very comfortable to wear. Love the hood to cover and support bub when sleeping or in the sun.

Also have a Nurture Sling - cheap to buy via ebay or their site.
A very basic over shoulder sling - can be used for baby to lay in, to support bub on your hip when older and for a toddler on your back or hip. Not as comfortable once bub gets big but great when they are small.
Nice and cheap if you only plan on using sometimes.
