Capsule vs. Carseat Rss

Hi Everyone,

I am due to have my first baby in June and was wondering if anyone could help me decide between buying a baby capsule that seems to be practical but only lasts for six months use, or whether to get a car seat which they can use until about 4 years of age

What have you found to be the best option, both money wise and practicality?

Thanks for any advice(:

Don't know much between the two really, but I guess you'd have to weigh up the cost factor. It does depend a bit on the size of the baby. My DS is a small baby, so weight wise he could have still fit into the a baby capsule up to about 10 months of age. But if he was a big baby, he may have had to have been out within 4-5 months (if big like some of my nieces and nephews.

With some baby capsules (don't know if all or just some) they clip in and out so you can take your baby in and out of the car asleep without disturing him/her which can be a pretty good benefit.

Some baby capsules can go with a certain pram/stroller and so can clip in and out of the car then into the pram and can often make life a bit easier without waking up your baby.

Myself, we got the combined carseat that reverses around.

There are different places where you could hire a baby capsule so that could help with costs.

Sorry, not much help. Good luck deciding and congratulations on your pregnancy.
I guess it really depends on how many children you are planning. I didnt have a capsule with my first, however did have on with my second and found it a life saver as it was easier to continue with my normal life of playgroup, swimming lessons without having to disturb her sleep. I hired mine and it was only about $60. In saying that it only lasted for 4 months. With my third, i wish i had of hired another one, but for some reason i didnt. If your planning on having a few kids than i would consider weighing up the costs between hiring one for all of them compaired to the cost of purchasing. It really is expensive for only 4 months imo.
Yep as PP said you can hire baby capsule. We did this with DD1 and it cost around $70 for 6 months. I loved my capsule. Mean't baby could stay sleeping if you had to get in and out of the car. With DD2 we bought a second hand one off ebay and she is still in it at the moment and will go into a rear facing car seat that can turn around for forward facing.

Not sure where you are but in qld you hire then from Qld ambulance and some baby hire shops. If you google hire baby capsule in your area it should give you your options. Good luck deciding it is really personal choice. smile

Also I loved it it winter when my DD was a newborn as you could put her in inside and put a blanket over her so she was all warm and snug before going out and putting her in the car, especially if you were out at night.

We had the capsule that then clips onto pram. Lifesaver. If my daughter was asleep I could simply take the capsule out of the car and bring inside. I can highly recommend. When she grew out of it we bought a 0-4 years seat for each car (same seat so settings are same etc).

My opinion is get the capsule to start with. So convenient.
I brought a turn-a-tot when I was pregnant with my first child. Its easier then normal carseats as it turned to face the car door so it was smoother to get them in and out of the car (no need to lift them over or under straps)This car seat lasts them up until they go into a booster. So I have used this for my 2 children then put them into a maxi rider AHR when they were almost 2.

Highly recommend a capsule.... I bought one for my first, used it for my second and am currently pregnant with number 3 so will sue it again... I like that you can take the capsule out of the car and not disturb baby... It's going to be really handy as DD1 starts school soon so wont have to disturb bubs.. I think they are a good investment if you are going to use it for more than one baby...Otherwise you an hire them from the red cross..

I was lucky my parents brought a capsule for the family to all use with their kids and i have had the first 2 so it didn't cost me anything but if your worried u can hire them from the butcher.

??? Hire them from the butcher???? Was this a typo???

LMAO sorry i obviously didn't have my mind on the job i was watching my taped episodes from my kitchen rules and they were talking about a Butcher LMAO.

You can hire them from the ambo's LOL sorry

Ah you gave me a laugh too... Butchers branching out into a new speciality....
Wow, thank you everyone for all your advice
I will definitely look into hiring a capsule- that is such a good idea (:
Kidsafe also hire them, and larger car seats too. Depending on area/depand you may need to arrange them in advance.
We didn't have a capsule with DS, put him straight into a convertible carseat, he never really got disturbed when we moved him sleeping from the car to pram or our arms and then to bed etc. I've bought a capsule for the new baby though, DS will only be 15mths and as of yet is not walking so will need it. I put him in it and he would have still fit at 13mths, weight and height etc.
Whatever you decide on, do lots of research into your chosen seat, we are now looking at upgrading DS's seat, just because for this next baby I want one that rear-faces longer and they can stay in until they don't need a carseat anymore. Sometimes that hefty price tag is worth it - wish I had thought of that 18 months ago, instead of being scared off though.
