Bassinets - sleeping for the first few months Rss

I have two daughters who went into big cots using the tetra bed inserts, but I found in the early weeks I would co-sleep because of breast feeding and I liked having them right next to me (for ease). I however wouldn't get much sleep as I was would wake up to check that me or hubby hadn't rolled on them. This time I am strongly contemplating buying a bassinet. I have sold all my previous nursery equipment, simply because we had no room/place to store it. My plan is to buy a bassinet and have bub sleep next to us for the first few months and then go out and buy a cot that converts to a toddler or single bed.

I am set on the Mother's Choice Coco Bassinet and it says it will take a baby up to 9kgs. I thought this was allot, considering my girls were about 7/8 months before they hit that weight. I'd be happy to get 6 months out of a bassinet. Looks like it will store easily too.

My other option is the Nature's Purest Moses Basket and stand.

Questions:
1. How long did you use your bassinet for?
2. Has anyone used either of these, what are your thoughts?
3. Can the Nature's Purest Moses Basket and stand be used as a Bassinet (how is the mattress firmness for sleeping)?

Thanks in advance for any replies

We have used a bassinet for both our kids. DD (our oldest) was in her bassinet until around 3 months. DS is 3.5 months and still in his bassinet. And we are planning on him veing in there as long as practical, i think he'll be in there until almost 6 months. I have found it great esp for our little boy as we rock him to sleep in it. So to rock him in our living area while reading a book to DD has been great!! We then put him in hs bedroom when he is asleep. Also we rock him in it to resettle him to help him have longer naps as sometimes and particuarly in te early days little monky would wake after 40 mins.
Also, we had him in our bedroom for the first 6 weeks at nght which is so nice!!
I thought it was a bit of a waste seeing they are not in them for very long, but i'm really glad we bought it! We got it for $99 at big w.
We used a bassinet borrowed from my sister in law for both kids, but found that by about 2 months old they were constantly hitting the sides of it with their hands or feet and waking themselves up.

So my DS went straight into a cot but I felt like I would have liked to have him beside our bed a bit longer! So with DD, when the bassinet no longer suited, we set a port a cot up beside our bed (one where the bottom is elevated up near the top so you don't have to reach right down) and she stayed in that at night until about 4 months. She had moved into a cot in her own room during the day at about 3 months. Now I find that she sleeps brilliantly in the port a cot no matter where we go!

Good luck with the rest of the pregnancy
We used a basinette for about 4 months with DS2. Then he would start pushing off the end with his feet and hitting his head on the other end. So we thought we better move him into the cot. For the first couple months he would have his naps out in the lounge area.

My friend has a moses basket (her little man is about 10 weeks) and is almost grown out of it.

We used our bassinet for the first six months! Then DH decided that we should move DD into her cot! I would have been happy for her to stay with me!

I looked at these ones in the store and wasn't exactly happy with the support they offered, when you actually push down the mattress looks like it bows and it doesn't seem like it has very hard support for bubs! We opted for a bassinet that had a more secure base and then a mattress

I havent used either of those but just used a traditional bassinet with my first girl for about 4 months then moved her into a cot because she started rolling over and their is not alot of space in the bassinet to roll over. With my second I used the bassinet for only about 2 months before moving her into a cot, simply because she didn't like sleeping in the bassinet and slept a lot better in a cot. And because my toddler kept trying to pull the bassinet over to get to her sister! But what I loved about it was that I was able to have the bassinet right next the my bed and when they woke up I could just reach over and get them into bed with me to feed.

I actually found the port-a-cot to be more useful than the bassinette and moses basket I brought her - she used neither and both are brand new.. Even though she does have a full nursery set up with a boori cot that converts to a toddler and then single bed, I find that i really like her to stay with me and we have been out in the lounge for the last 18 weeks, me on a mattress, her in the port- a cot - this also allows her dad to sleep all night as he has to go to work the next day.Gives me the opportunity to make a fresh bottle during 1 wake up in the night and we have the heater which in perth lately our temps are nearly zero,. she is however starting to sleep up to 8 hours plus a night now so i will slowly be re-adjusting her to the nursery so i can finally go back to the comfort of my soft mattress and although some say this isnt a good sleeping choice for either of us we find for us it works wonders... dont listen to others just do what is good for your situation
I believe you can use the bassinette until the baby starts rolling over. Once they start rolling over they can top the bassinette. I had DS in there till the day before he turned 6 months old (that's when he rolled over in the bassinette). We had borrowed the bassinette but I wish we had bought one as it was so useful. We have gone out and gotten a bassinette for baby no 2. 2 things which were really important to me were wheels (so I could easily move it around the house) and a basket below (it was so handy being able to store everything we needed and take it about with us).
