do you use family names?
Five generations of women on my mothers side all have the middle name Johanna, so I think I would have been practically disowned if I didn't continue this tradition with my DD. Luckily both DH and I liked the name, and coincidentally it is also DHs nannas name, so it worked out well for us!
Yep we use family names. My DS has the name of my cousin who passed away and if we have a boy it will have my pa's name as his middle name. My girls name is a short version of my grandmas middle name if we have a girl.

Yep, we use family names as middle names and will this time too. Both of my daughters middle names are from their great grandmothers.

This is our first and we had these names picked
Sienna joy- joy after my nan who passed
Logan samual William- samual after dh pop and William after mine
Nobody expected these names we just liked them

All our boys have family names for middle names, we chose Dh's family as I don't really have a close relationship with any males on my side!
I guess we were lucky that we loved the names and they went well together!
DS1 has DH's
DS2 has greatgrandfathers
DS3 has grandfathers middle name

DD has my middle name 'Ann' and it also happens to be my mums middle name. If we have a boy next then we won't be using a family name as DH's family would all get offended if they don't like our choice. If we have another girl, we probably won't use a family name either.

I have for DS. Both his first and middle name are family names. If I have a girl at some stage, she'll have my middle name. In saying that, I'll only continue to use family names IF I like the name (and hubby likes it too!). To be perfectly honest, I don't really like any of the names on my hubby's side to use.
if they say just their first name, say like emily, she gets all cranky and says 'yes but what kind of emily are you?' lol thats how she thinks of last names..like a breed hahaha
Love it!!!

DDs middle name is my surname which isn't really a family name at all! Its a name I made up and changed legally when I turned 18! Lol. I'm currently debating whether to use the same middle name for DD2.

My DH dad's side of the family have a tradition that goes back a few generations that the first born have a name that starts with A and the middle name james. We gave DS the middle name but didn't like any names that started with A. I'm not sure if it was a big issue with his dad as he's never said anything but we couldn't care anyway. DD doesn't have any family names.

hey i was wondering do you use family names to name you kids? did you find it easier or harder to use amily names?
DS has a family name as his middle name but none of our other kids will i think it would be harder trying to use family names
so was curious what you think and do?
Yes we did with both our boys, for their middle names. We used one from my side for the first, and from DH's side for the second. We actually found it pretty easy, for the first at least, I wanted my dad's name in there because it just seemed 'right' and I knew how much it would mean to him to have his first grandchild carry his name. Just seemed fitting smile
I said to DH that he could choose who he wanted to name the second bub after from his side, and he chose his grandfather who passed away before the kids were born.
I think it's a nice tradition, especially when it means a lot to the person or family that they are being named after. It was very meaningful to my dad (my siblings and I are all named after family members, middle names at least) but not so much to DH's parents. They thought it was nice, but it was neither here nor there to them really. If we have a third child we might name it after DH or me, rather than pick another family member, since we already have one name from each side. Pretty big 'if' there though laugh
I used my dads first name 'John' for my DS middle name. As my dad passed away when I was 17 it just felt like the right thing to do. And I like the way it sounds with DS first name.
