what makes a good midwife? Rss

My husband is a midwife (believe it or not!), although he didn't deliver our children, he has always been getting positive comments about his care. Personally for me, belongs they are caring, treat me as a person and has the welfare of both me and my baby, that is all that matters.
For me it was a warm caring voice that made me feel at ease and someone i could instantly trust... Someone that listens to my every need in such a hectic time and someone that is willing to go out of there way to get things done quickly when needed... The midwives ive had almost made me feel as if i had known them for ever even though i only met them when in labor.... I have never had a bad experience with any of the midwives i have dealt with. They have all been AMAZING people.

the best quality a midwife can have is to listen and treat each patient as an individual.

I say this because I had a midwife who i suspect saw her patients as just a whole bunch of paranoid pregnant ladies and she had seen hundreds of us before and treated us as such.

Oh and to actually REMEMBER things you have told them lol. Or write them down at least. I got so annoyed with my mw asking my partners name and what he did for a living every single appointment. If its important enough to ask its important enough to remember or write down. shheeeessshhh.
Well with my first and this baby I have had the same midwife. Im fortunate enough to have one midwife throughout my pregnancy and birth. Which I find so great! I have been able to build a relationship with my midwife and found her excellent with the birth of my first so I requested her again for this baby. The first appointment my midwife said that if I didn't like her for any reason that she wouldn't be offended and they would assign me another one. I honestly think that more hospitals should have this program so that women can avoid having a bad experience with the midwife on duty when they birth.
So you definitely need to be able to trust and feel comfortable with that midwife for sure.
