IVF - about to start! Anyone else in same boat? Rss

Hi Girls, I'd like to join you in your thread.

My name is Julie, I'm 37 and have just had 5 failed attempts at AI through my fertility gyno. We are now moving on to IVF and have my first consultation with him on Monday.

Am very excited about it as we have been TTC #2 for 17 months. It took 6 months to fall with DS without assistance but this time around things aren't quite going to plan.

Can anyone explain what the process is so that I'm not too overwhelmed on Monday. ie what you start with, injections etc.

Thanks and would love to keep in contact with you. Good luck

Julie x

Goodluck!!!! I concieved my son through IVF in 07. I wish you all the best! x

Ethans Mummy every process is a lil diff. As some dr's do diff things. When i started i was on the pill for 3 weeks then started the nose spray & then 10 days later injections. My first cycle took a total of around 6 weeks to complete from the pill to transfer day. But that was for my first cycle because it was fresh. Hope this has helped! Im sure your nurse will explain in detail what your plan will be! Best of Luck!

Hi Girls/Ladies
Wishing you all good luck, I understand everything you are going through. My DD is 16 months old she was conceived by IVF on our first go, and now we are 2weeks 3days pregnant with our 2nd baby also IVF and first go again. we still have 7 eggs left in fridge yay. so goodluck again girls thinking off you.
enjoys this it's worth every little bit.
Can I ask how many embryo's you had transferred and why ? Are the chances of all implanted embyo's taking the same or can some fail once implanted?

Hey Julie, it has been about 6 weeks so far since I started the pill which is the first part...the process I have gone through is as follows:

*met with ivf doctor who outlined procedure and gave us heaps of reading material and sent us both for blood tests and DH for sperm sample (even though we've been pregnant 5 times he still wanted to test the little fellas!)
*once i got my period I started pill mycrogynon on day 3 (i think)
*start nasal spray once pill stops which is about 3 weeks
* have a scan after been on spray for a few weeks to make sure everthing is quiet - ovaries and uterus - i had my scan last friday (week ago)
*started injections on tuesday this week (should have started sunday but uterus not as thin as they wanted so continued with spray for a few more days) Injections are painless, tiny needle, a slight pin prick is all i feel:)Take injections for 6 days (normally 5-7days).
*i have a scan on monday (2 days to go yay!) to see if ovaries have responded and there are hopefully heaps of eggs (but not too many) I think they like 6-10 or thereabouts. If all is good then they will call me on monday arvo and tell me what time to take the TRIGGER injection which is taken 37 hours from theatre time (they work backwards). Then wednesday will be egg pickup which is under a general and you can't do anything, no driving, no looking after kids etc for 24 hours so have booked mum in to take my DD for the day and pick me up from hospital. DH does his bit whilst I am haing my eggs taken. Then hopefully they will fertilise them and on friday will be embryo transfer then wait two weeks for blood test!

I am having 1 embryo transferred because I can get pregnant quite easily the doctor thinks that i will probably end up with twins if they do two. I think that in vic the rule is no more than 2 unless there is a special reason.
Sorry for long post...hope that helps.

I hope it goes well for you.
I was reading up on my dr's website and they recommend only one transfer <35 however, over 35 it can be discussed whether the dr feels 1 or 2. I'm sure we'll cross this bridge when we get to it.
Am looking fwd to starting. Just seems to have taken AGES to get to where I am.
Thanks for the info.
Let me know how you go.

Hi Ethans mummy
I had 1 embryo transfer both times it was my choice, i had a good run first time round thats why i only did 1 second time. not all embyo's implanted take, it just depends where it trys to attach to the wall of your uterus some of the lining is thicker than other parts. hope that make sence.
feel free to ask anything.
Hi Littlemissmoo - Just had my visit to the gyno. I am having this month off and will start the process next month. Looks like i'm starting with nasal spray on around day 16 (i have very short cycle) then injections...looks like the transfer will happen at the end of July.

Feels really good to have a little light at the end of the tunnel....nothing seemed to be working and my doc feels really positive about this.... He has recommended having 2 embryo's transferred due to my age and I am okay with this.

Fingers crossed and thankyou for the advice. Am very excited about moving forward !

Hi all, well I had my scan today and my follicles on the right side are doing well, 2 big ones and 3 medium sized one but only 1 medium one on the left. So I have 2 more days of injections (today and tomorrow) then find out tomorrow arvo when trigger and egg pick up will be, either thursday or friday, then embryo transfer saturday or sunday...yay!!!

Tammy, it is great that you are supporting your mum...the more people who you have as support the better!!!

Hey ethansmummy, great to hear you have started the journey...the next month off will fly by, and you've got heaps to do in that time anyway, like blood tests etc. Then the fun begins! 2 eggs, watch out for twins!!! that would be fun!
