progesterone before clomid?

Last cycle I had a day 21 progesterone test done to confirm ovulation but my levels were an 8 and the doc said that they need to be atleast a 12 to indicate ovulation has occurred so i have to do the test again this cycle to see if last cycle was a 1 off thing or not. anyways my doctor has said that if they come back low again then he will put me on progesterone and if that doesn't work then we will try clomid and if that doesnt work we can go ahead with ivf if we like. But heres the thing i have searched on the internet what progesterone does for ovulation and i cant find anything that says that it can help ovulation, I was just wondering if there are other ladies on huggies who have been on progesterone before trying clomid? and do you thing the progesterone is a waist of time? xo

I have unexplained recurrent miscarriage (mostly due to my body not producing enough progesterone - so I guess it's not quite unexplained LOL0 and am about to go through our 3rd IUI cycle. We have always started with Clomid first and then progesterone support from the day of the insemination. However Im only on Clomid so that my cycle can be regulated, I do ovulate on my own.
