NERVOUS ABOUT MIDWIFEY !!
Hey, Well im due 26/12/12 2nd child oh what a date =) ive just booked me a midwife and i was told by my plunket nurse too book early as most midwives go on holiday during that month. has anyone experienced going into labour in the month of december and there midwife not turning up or somthing along those lines im soooo nervous an scared my midwife may end up being on holiday or somthing i dont want some random midwife =S
My midwife had january off. You should get to meet your back up midwife anyway as it's usually someone who works in the same practice.

Hi
My son was due on the 22/12/11, he came a little earlier on the 19th but a lot of midwives were on holidays at that time and they were very short staffed and I felt like they had a lot of attitude and were all over the place. I had a bad experience and hope that dosent happen again. I hope you have better luck.

My due date was 1st January and had lot of trouble finding a midwife that was working over the holidays but obviously they won't book you in if they are having a holiday, their leave is approved at certain times to make sure their is always someone working. And every midwife has a back up to cover their days off. My baby arrived 20th december at christchurch hospital and although there weren't alot of staff on, they did took care of me while I waited for my midwife to arrive.
Good luck smile

I was due on the 23/12 and delivered on the 25/12 lol... just make sure the midwife you choose is not going on holiday. Mine was there for me every step of the way, and her offsider was avaliable and came in to help too. A midwife should have already booked her holidays by now and wouldnt be accepting pregnant women due around that time...

That sucks!
My dd was due on the 12/12 (back in 04). I rung to try get a midwife (through the hospital) and was told "oh, December, most midwives are on holiday round that time, I don't know if we'll be able to find you anyone"... I was like "oh sorry, I'll just change my due date shall I?! Does February suit you better?!" lol. Anyway, they found me a midwife but only one who did per and post but not the birth. The birth I just had the random that was on duty st the hospital that shift. Sucked a little but I actually liked her better than my other midwife. Lol.
This time round with my son I had the most amazing midwife ever who I loved, she even came with her kids to my sons first birthday. smile she was awesome and if/when I have more she will be the one I call. smile
Good luck!
