Leftovers while pregnant Rss

Hi ladies
My GP told me that I can't eat leftovers at all when pregnant. Not even the day after the food was made. I forgot tonight and started reheating spaghetti that was made last night then remembered. I haven't eaten the spaghetti yet but it is really all I have at home for dinner. It was only made yesterday so I really don't see why I can't eat it if I heat it up hot. But would love advice as to what you do/think. Thanks!

Oops- I ate leftovers through both my pregnancies- no harm done smile

I didn't know about that, I thought as long as they are stored in the fridge/freezer and re-heated to a hot temperature it's ok. Anyway I have done it and will keep doing it so if you want your spaghetti I say have it!

i have aswell, the book from teh ministry of health about this kind of stuff in nz says to use within 2 days and ensure you heat to pipping hot then cool down till it is at a eatable temeperate so as long as you heat it really really hot you should be fine but only re heat once

enjoy your spagheti
I wouldn't eat left over takeaways but left over home made shouldn't be a problem.

it is fine nothing I read about it said to stay away from it
being a bit over the top i think
stupid gp

I know my opinion may not hold much credit as I have never been preg, but I really feel we as a society are getting so wrapped up in foods. Such as allergies, studies have shown avoidance in kids makes reactions worse when they are exposed. same as avoiding vaccines and then dying from the disease.

totaly agree with i dont see why people are worried about peanuts etc during pregnancy. when i was a kid it was very rare to see anyone with an allergy to food now every second kid has one.

however this is about listeria and if contracted during pregnancy chances are the baby will die.

the rules here in OZ are you are able to eat left overs after 1 day but no longer and re heat until piping hot only as long as it was put in the fridge ASAP and not left out on the bench for too ling before refridgerating.

i know you would have eaten it already but in case anyone else was wondering.

Thanks ladies for the replies. I didn't eat it as I just wasn't sure and hadn't seen all these replies. Hubby ate it all though so no food got wasted which is good. GXSRNESS - I wouldn't call my GP stupid. She is a lovely lady and I can understand everyone having different opinions as you can never be too careful when pregnant.
In future I will eat a day after but not any more time after that.
Duckie - As Page said you can never be too careful when pregnant as you don't want your baby to die from a poor food choice which unfortunately happens more then you may think.
