Do you have low iron? Rss

Hi ladies,

30 weeks pregnant and the dr said I'm anaemic, with iron levels of 10-11. I knew I was feeling more tired this time round! I thought it was just the running around after an 18m/o!

I am on Ferro-grad-c, twice a day for a couple of weeks and then once a day after that. Were you put on something similar?

Has anyone else had this and felt funny? I'm thinking it's making me a bit dizzy and that it also gives me a funny taste in my mouth for an hour or so after taking it (ie after the pill is ingested and after washing my mouth out).

Also, how long did it take for your levels to go up?

Merci!
xx
I had low iron at the beginning of last year and was put on ferro tabs. My iron 2 months ago was much better. Still not amazing but much better. I'm still on tablets and have been improving my diet and so far so good for now. If you stay on your tabs for a bit it should improve.

Iron tablets gave me headaches and made me feel sick so I tried a liquid supplement and its great, Floradix floravital - a liquid supplement is absorbed by the body much easier than a tablet.

I took it throughout my pregnancy and continue to take it, it took months post pregnancy for my levels to get to normal. I had low levels throughout my pregnancy but it didnt cause any problems and its very common. Taking supplements wont normalise your levels quickly, it takes months.
With all my preg I have bben told by midwives to drink or eat milo - apparently 1 Tblsp of milo has more absorbable iron in it than a whole steak...........
I had ferro tabs, and stopped taking them once my levels were back up after about a month as suffered some side effects (wont go into details as very much tmi lol) and my levels went back down again pretty fast but since having DS I have actually been taking elevit and my levels are back to normal now.

But try adding more vit C to your diet, like a glass of OJ with your ferro tab, or kiwifruit or something and cut out tea smile

I also have low iron levels during this pregnancy.... Was tested at 28 weeks and put on Fefol tablets which are so much better than the ones i was taking last pregnancy which was FPF..... Am currently 35 weeks and was sent to have bloods today to have my levels checked to make sure the tablets are working.
