Need my memory refreshed Rss

The 12 week blood tests, what was that for again?
I know i'd have to get bloods done WITH my NT test IF i chose to do it. But even if i DON'T chose to do the NT test, there's a different set of blood tests that need doing. I can't remember what these are for? I didn't ask my doctor as he was printing me the forms as we were hashing out other things we needed to talk about and forgot by the time we'd finished.

They do the blood sugar test for diabetes somewhere around that time I think.

ETA: Just had a look on good old google and the sugar test isn't done until 24 weeks. Did you get bloods done when you first went to see your doctor?

Well i'm guessing it would be all the screenings for antibodies? But i'm sure that gets done in the first blood test which confirms the pregnancy. I don't remember the 12wk blood test giving any other result than being combined with my NT scan. Sorry if that's not much help smile

I think they are routine bloods to check that all your levels are within normal range for a healthy pregnancy. eg iron/folate levels are not low etc.
I am not sure...
as soon as I was confirmed that I was pregnant the doctor sent me for my bloods (maybe yours does this at 12 weeks)
it was to check to make sure I was immune to MMR plus didn't have any STI or AIDs or HIV etc. Also just to double check sugar and iron.
i didn't have the NT scan and didn't have any bloods then either

i had bloods when i confirmed the pregnacy to check my levels and for disease's

then my next blood were the glucose ones at 26weeks

You don't HAVE to get bloods done to get a NT scan done. It just gives a more thorough result. You can get your results based on the nuchal fold and your age but it may be higher than if you put bloods with it IYKWIM?

If I had my time again I would not get it done- the false positive results (eg giving a higher risk than there really is) are quite common and cause unnecessary worry.

Yeah, i thought the diabetes one wasn't till later. I got a blood test done a few weeks ago but i'm sure that was just a confirmation of pregncy and HCG levels. They didn't check anything else.

Nah, they didn't test me for anything when they did the confirmation bloods. Just checked my HCG.

Yes, this makes sense. Of course, now i do remember that last pregnancies they DID check my iron and all that.

Yeah, nah, They didn't do it with the confirmation bloods.
Does make sense about STI's and what not. I can remember having those tests now. Syphillis and what not.

Hmmm, my Doctor must just wait til the 12 weeks instead of when confirming the pregnancy. So many of said you got the bloods done with confirmation i wonder why my doctor waits till 12 weeks.

No, the bloods i am talking about are NOT the ones you have with the NT test. They're a seperate form i was given. If i had the form it'd probably tell me but i've left it somewhere and won't be able to retrieve it for awhile. Too far away.
I got an ultrasound referal for 12 weeks and a blood test for to go with the NT scan. Then i got a seperate form as well, about other bloods that i HAVE to get done even if i DON'T do the NT scan.
Chances are we wont do the NT test.

Hmmmmm, i dunno! I definitely didn't get any other bloods done at that time.

In that case the extra set of bloods unrelated to the NT would be to check your vitamin levels, whether you have any diseases and to check your antibodies for rubella, etc.

I got mine done at 4 weeks when I got bloods done for confirmation of pregnancy.

I know right. All of you have said that

My clinic must do things different.

Yeah that makes sense.
I only had a pregnancy 18 months ago and have already forgotten all the details.
Hmm i must have gotten them bloods done earlier the last times because i don't remember it all happening around the 12 week mark.

Thank you for all your help ladies. It's been much appreciated.

sorry didnt read all the other replies.

from what i see at work, if you havent already had your antibody tests done you will be sent for them. so things like your blood group and immunity status for things like rubella and for hiv/hep status.

mum to one goregous boy

G'day
The 12wk blood test is usually the maternal serum screening My link
You can have this test instead of or along side the 12wk nuchal scan

Sorry I just read all of the replies....
I only ever had bloods done when I was 1st pregnant and the MSS bloods.
You must feel like a pin cushion smile

Pregnant woman is just another way of saying pin cushion wink at least this time I am going to be smart enough to say no to any unsupervised trainee nurses. Last one ruined my sarong during my last pregnancy with my blood.

I saw my Dr when I was 5 weeks pregnant, and he gave me a referal for all the blood work (antibodies, rubella status, HIV/hep status, iron, thyroid, cbc etc...the works) and also the NT test. He said to get it all done just before my 12 week scan, so the NT blood results ran alongside the scan results.

I hate bloodtests, so put it off...got it all done straight after my scan unsure

Then the glucose one and another cbc etc at about 24 weeks...yuk!
