They do the blood sugar test for diabetes somewhere around that time I think.
ETA: Just had a look on good old google and the sugar test isn't done until 24 weeks. Did you get bloods done when you first went to see your doctor?
Yeah, i thought the diabetes one wasn't till later. I got a blood test done a few weeks ago but i'm sure that was just a confirmation of pregncy and HCG levels. They didn't check anything else.
Well i'm guessing it would be all the screenings for antibodies? But i'm sure that gets done in the first blood test which confirms the pregnancy. I don't remember the 12wk blood test giving any other result than being combined with my NT scan. Sorry if that's not much help smile
Nah, they didn't test me for anything when they did the confirmation bloods. Just checked my HCG.
I think they are routine bloods to check that all your levels are within normal range for a healthy pregnancy. eg iron/folate levels are not low etc.
Yes, this makes sense. Of course, now i do remember that last pregnancies they DID check my iron and all that.
I am not sure...
as soon as I was confirmed that I was pregnant the doctor sent me for my bloods (maybe yours does this at 12 weeks)
it was to check to make sure I was immune to MMR plus didn't have any STI or AIDs or HIV etc. Also just to double check sugar and iron.
Yeah, nah, They didn't do it with the confirmation bloods.
Does make sense about STI's and what not. I can remember having those tests now. Syphillis and what not.
i didn't have the NT scan and didn't have any bloods then either
i had bloods when i confirmed the pregnacy to check my levels and for disease's
then my next blood were the glucose ones at 26weeks
Hmmm, my Doctor must just wait til the 12 weeks instead of when confirming the pregnancy. So many of said you got the bloods done with confirmation i wonder why my doctor waits till 12 weeks.
You don't HAVE to get bloods done to get a NT scan done. It just gives a more thorough result. You can get your results based on the nuchal fold and your age but it may be higher than if you put bloods with it IYKWIM?
If I had my time again I would not get it done- the false positive results (eg giving a higher risk than there really is) are quite common and cause unnecessary worry.
No, the bloods i am talking about are NOT the ones you have with the NT test. They're a seperate form i was given. If i had the form it'd probably tell me but i've left it somewhere and won't be able to retrieve it for awhile. Too far away.
I got an ultrasound referal for 12 weeks and a blood test for to go with the NT scan. Then i got a seperate form as well, about other bloods that i HAVE to get done even if i DON'T do the NT scan.
Chances are we wont do the NT test.
