I had my antenatal appointment last week and i was just entering week 25 (only 15 more to go, yay). When the midwife checked my baby's heartbeat it kept fluxuating between 190 and over 200 bpm. The midwife made a comment about it being really fast and then she left the room for ages. She didn't say anything when she came back so i didn't question her, but should i be worried. At this stage in my other two pregnancies, the baby's heartbeats were down to between 120 and 130 bpm.
Really fast heart beat.

I don't want to worry you but when I was about 36 weeks along the same thing happened to me and I actually had to spend a night in hospital because of it... I was given 2 bags of IV fluids and DS's heart rate started to slow again. But I had to be on a CTG machine every few hours to monitor.
So they put it down to my dehydration. I didn't realise I was dehydrated but being diabetic it was difficult to stay hydrated at that stage.
I'm surprised she didn't do anything further but I guess she knows what she is doing.
Do you smoke? cause than can cause faster fetal heart rates. I think caffeine consumption can as well but not 100% on that.
Otherwise I would just say keep your fluids up, and I mean way up. Drink enormous amounts of water smile and don't be afraid to ask your midwife questions. Ring her every day if you want to. That IS what she is there for. A lot of them act annoyed when you ring with a question but thats all part of the service they are paid to provide. GL

Thank you for that.
I don't smoke. I quit after finding out i was pregnant and I gave up coffee as well when i had bad morning sickness. I drink about 6 bottles of water a day (im serious) as Im always so thirsty. At the appointment she did tell me I have placenta previa, full coverage. Would that cause the high heartbeat?

ummm don't think so as that is just to do with the position of the placenta isn't it?
sorry I couldn't be more help

Ring & talk to your midwive because she should of told you what going on.
If your not happy talk to your doctor & get them to do test to put your mind at easy.
I can't say what going on because i didn't have the same problem plus i use to ask the midwives 100 question & if i wasn't happy i would walk arcoss the road & see my doctor and ask him 100 question.
I'm sure everything alright.

I would definitey be asking her and maybe asking her for a scan or to atleast recheck babys heart beat in a day or 2 to make sure it has come down.
Dont be afraid to ask questions and ask for a second opinion or to be refered aswell as its always best to be safe than sorry. take care

between 37 and 38 weeks my baby's resting heartbeat 200bpm but settled after about an hour of being on CTG machine. i was monitered for 2 hours every day for 3 days and on the last day her heartbeat was never slowing below 200bpm so they decided to deliver her straight away. because of the rapid heartbeat they had to do an emergency c-section because it would have caused too much strain on her to deliver.
I'm not sure what they would have done differently if it was earlier in my pregnancy as i was so close to having her anyway they just chose to deliver her.
If i was you i would book another appointment ASAP and just check whether it was just a once off. I think it is fine if their heartrate is that fast as long as they are moving its only a problem if its that fast when they are resting.
Good luck hun

Hiya,
I think that 190 - 200 bpm is too high and should be investigated further, even if it was to make sure it was a one off. I noticed you said that you drink alot of water cause you are always thirsty...it might be worth having your GTT done sooner rather than later cause one symptom of GDM is increased thirst, and guessing higher PGLs could lead to increased foetal heartrate.
Hopefully junior had just been having an intense in utero work out...
All the best smile

Just for your own peace of mind, I would ring and speak to your midwife. There's nothing worse than worrying or consulting "Dr Google." Besides, you don't need the extra stress, especially because your stress will stress the baby. Hope all is well.
