New RBWH Catchement Rules? Rss

Does anybody know what proof the RBWH now ask for to '"prove" that you are within their catchment area??

I had my DD there 18 months ago but have moved house since and I have heard that they have become quite strict about who gets reffered there now and I just want to know if anyone knows what documents they check?

Thanks
Em

After i was rejected from the Mater we tried them, but they automatically reject the fax referral from the doctor if its out of the catchment. In my case, Ipswich, i rung and spoke to them explained the circumstances, and they said the doctor had to write it clearly on the referral and then pretty much call and see if someones read it. I had a 7wk prem last pregnancy at Ipswich and didnt want to go thru that again. However i have now found a private midwife worth every dollar and she keeps Ipswich Hospital inline and makes sure I am getting the best care.

My only suggestion would be to find a doctor within the inner city and use a inner city address of a friend or relative. Can always use your correct address later in the pregnancy once you have your foot in the door, just say you recently shifted.

It really is stupid, My doctor is within their catchment (indooroopilly) but because I live 1km on the other side of the river RBWH apparently wont even look at my referral. It's so annoying seeing I only moved this side of town in Jan!

A friend of mine is happy for me to use her address, I just need to know of they actually check anything like medicare address or licence to make sure I have all my bases covered.

As far as i know they use the address your doctor puts on the referral, we could of used MIL's address but for some reason i thought i would be honest and thought due to the nature of the last pregnancy someone might have a heart. Apparently not, but thanks to my midwife and her choice of obstetrician at Ipswich, we are so far exceeding my expectations. The NICU at Ipswich cant be faulted, it was just the lack of care during the pregnancy which was the issue but thats now under control this time round. Good luck with your pregnancy, i hope you get into the RBWH

They will ask to see evidence such as your name on a morgtage or lease as they are very strict! They are very much on to people who use friends addresses to get into the hospital!

wow things have changed. We used to live in indooroopilly and I had both my oldest kids at the RBH, no issues at all. I guess that was 5 yrs ago now though.. lol

Where do they expect you to go? the Mater?
And since you are still in the catchment shouldnt that still be ok?

I don't have a lease at the house I am living in because it's my mums house. I know it's silly but I am scared to go to Mater because I have had friends who have had really bad experiences.

I would have thought that because you had been there before you should be able to go back.
Sorry I have no advice!! smile

Keeping fit and healthy in pregnancy!!

It gets stupider! My GP cant refer me to mater public because apparently GP's have to be "mater approved" to do so! So I either need her to get me into RBWH, pay $$$$$$ to go to Mater Private or get a new GP. Who knew 2nd baby would be so difficult!

I'm having my third bub at Mater public and so far have had a great experiance. I'm in the midwife group practice group which means you get to know 4 midwives and they are you contsct if you have any concerns during pregnancy, they provide your antenatal care and deliver baby. Its more personal then when I had my daughters at logan, I was basically strapped to monitors and had to sit on the bed, there was no encouragement to move around or suggestions to help my labour along - just left to get on with it.

Had I not been in the midwife group practice care i would had to travel to QEII for my antenatal appointments as my dr is not mater approved - Must be a new thing the hospital have started.

I also have three good friends that have birthed at mater within last 12 months and they have really good expericances of the hospital xx
