Belly Buttons Rss

ok, so a strange question... did you get to chose whether your baby has an innie or an outie? And if you got to chose, which did you chose?

I have an innie, and always wanted the outie instead - but I think that only works well on people who are thin.

DH (also an innie) made a comment to me which suggested he assumed our bubba would have an innie. I am not sure how I feel about that. We're also in France, so maybe I don't get the choice... but I don't like that he assumes, and I don't like if the doctor assumes either.

Thoughts?

I've wondered this too lol

With both our babies we didn't get to choose but they both have innies which is what I would have chose smile both DH and I have innies.

So I think that I remember someone telling me that the doctor chooses - at least in Australia - it's sort of like their signature. They do all their deliveries the same. I wonder if that's true.

Never thought about it ha ha! We didn't get to chose and DS has a cute little outie, but he's a skinny little boy smile

Maybe you don't get a choice.... honestly, not sure it's going to be the first thing on my mind after birthing the baby anyway smile

I just thought that DH's assumption was weird, and wondered if it were normal.

You don't get a choice. They clamp off the cord, then it falls off where it wants...
I always thought that the doctors tied it in a knot, then either poked it in or left it. If it's just left to fall off and do it's own thing, why doesn't everyone have an outie?

Thats clamp stays there til the little bit of umbilical cord falls off along with the clamp. Whats left, until it heals a bit looks like shiny raw meat thats just whatever shape it is. I am pretty sure it was never by design the way my babies belly buttons turned out. The cord just falls off. No poking no prodding smile

Same with both my babies. They fell of about 5 days after. Both have innies.

I always thought it looked a bit like jerky grin
From what i've read, an innie or an outie is based on the way the scar tissue is formed and attached to the abdominal muscle, nothing to do with the doctor or parents choice. I think it's only something like 10 or 15 percent of the world have an outie anyway so chances are your kid'll be an innie. I've also heard that because the muscles and fat are generally thin on a child that sometimes what looks to be an outie can become an innie by around 2 or 3 yrs. (I'm wondering if that'll be DD cos hers is currently out.)

On another tangent, my neat little innie is threatening to become an outie with this pregnancy and its kind of freaking me out! lol grin

People who live in glass houses.....shouldn't walk around naked!

This is really interesting. DD1 has an outie and dd2 has an innie. I just put it down to genetics. tongue
