Hi my son has to go for his 4 yr old needles tomorrow just wanted to know what i am in for....
How many needles and what was your kids reactions?
I feel so sorry if he cries and i dont deal with him being sad and i dont want to cry infront of him.....
any advise
I was worried about the same thing with my DD when she was going to have them as my sister had told me she had to hold her DD down just so they could do them! I didn't tell my DD she was getting needles, just said we had an appointment, so she didn't have a lot of time to get worked up about it. She had 3 needles, 2 in one arm and 1 in the other but I think that was cause I got her an extra chickenpox booster as my nephew had CP at the time & also I had a newborn so was being extra careful. So the norm would have been 2 needles. She didn't even cry. I also had a treat for her afterwards, probably a little chocolate or something.

Its two needles, one in each arm.

It will hurt and you are best off telling him before you go to the appointment what he's going for and that it will hurt a little bit but he will be ok and afterwards you can go to the park, go for an icecream - ie pick something that is a treat and put the focus on that not the appointment.

As for not crying in front of him... well you have to be the parent and remain calm, if you are crying and carrying on then you will frighten him and make the situation worse.
