My 3 year old DS had to undergo an open appendectomy after his appendix burst. this is the 3rd day post op and yesterday was a good day he had little pain so was allowed to eat. During the day he ate a total of 1 sandwich and a banana then last night he was in pain all night and hes the same today.

Has anyone had a child have appendicitis? How was their recovery?

I've never known a child to have their appendix out but I had mine out after they burst when I was 22 and wasn't allowed to eat till day 3 so it worked out about 3 and a 1/2 days, before that it was clear fluids only. I was very unwell and in alot of pain up to day 4 or 5 if I remember rightly! And it took a good week for me to be able to walk properly and 2 weeks before I was pain free. As it was emergency surgery they obviously rushed and must've got a nerve so I have no feeling around the scar and that side of my belly hangs a bit.

ETA- I had a few days of terrible wind pains (had me curled up in pain on the bed at times) as they filled my belly full of air and flushed it out so the infection didn't spread into my gut. The pains could be partly due to something like that?
