He has strted taking a few steps, but is still so wobbly. just does not seem interested.. would love to know when others childrens started waking,., i dont think its late yet- (think if he isnt walkin by 17m that is classed as late) he also only says mum, dad, jack, ta & has now started saying ball, but not often.. how many words do your little ones say.. you would think that i would know all this after already ahving one child.. thanks in advance

Hi all,
Its funny though how much pressure people put on us as mothers/parents. My 14 month old daughter is not walking yet and all I hear from people is 'is she walking yet??' Its like leave her alone she will walk when she is ready!! Even the maternal health nurse makes you feel like something is wrong just because she isnt walking yet...but they get there in there own time. I hate the pressure put on you!!!!
True ladies???
I agree!!!
My 15 mth is still not walking yet but I know he will get there in his own time.
People are always asking the same question as well, sometimes it can be frustrating especially when they start asking if something is wrong with his feet.
All children get there....just give them time.
Do we really want our babies growing up so fast?
Hi,
My little boy didn't start walking until he was about 22 months old! They will walk when they feel ready and I think you put yourself under alot of pressure when you compare to other kiddies. Although it doesn't help when people make comments about their not walking yet!
My little boy has had lots of ear infections which we think has impacted on his speach developement. We have been to the dr's a couple of times and on various waiting lists. We are finally seeing an ENT specialist at the end of Jan, my little boy is 25 months now and probably sayes about 6 words. He babbles alot and he can follow instructions when he wants to!
Hope that was helpful

My DD didn't start walking until 25 months. There was nothing wrong with her she just didn't do it. The pressure from people was exhausting - it would have been easier if she had had a medical condition so I didn't have to justify or explain to people that she wasn't walking. It was also hard socially as other kids her age were off & running & she was being left out all the time. The positive to that however is that she plays by herself & can keep herself entertained for longer than other kids I've seen. That'll be a great play when the next one arrives!

Hi, my oldest son walked just before 15 months after crawling at 8. My youngest didn't crawl til 11 months and is now 15 months and not walking but not far off. I believe the fact we have polished boards makes a difference too. Also doesn't have any discernible words, though he has just started making a sound that sounds a bit like hello when he picks up his toy phone (babbles heaps though). maternal health told me to get his hearing tested but I know he can hear perfectly well. It will come.
hello there!
my boy is 15mths and he is not walking. he doenst even seem keen for it. i was a late walker and i was 20mths and my partner was 17mths so thats why i think my son wont walk until he is ready. in words he says mum, dad, cat, truck, duck, bum. every child takes there time and develope fast or slow.

Hi
my boy didnt start walking until 15months old.The doctors were saying he should have been walking by 1.so they sent him to a development nurse but i didnt attend because i believe that each little indervidual does their own thing at their own time.Of course 1 month later he started walking. He is now going on 2 and doesnt say much has afew basic words but he understands given instructions again the docs think hes late but i know my boy ,he'll do it all in his own time. Dont fret!

Hello,
I'm glad to read about all the late walkers as it goes to show that the range of 'normal' is just an average and that all is well in the end. I have since learnt to let go of pressures from other people and to realise that walking isn't going to be my little girl's main goal in life!
My daughter started walking just shy of 19 mos. Before that she crawled for about 8 months and moved onto knee walking for a month or so. I knew the benefits of crawling and didn't encourage her to walk at all. I never tried to get her up onto her feet and no furniture that she could really pull up onto like coffee tables etc. I ignored pressure from my mother, her friends, my cousin who for some reason were aghast that she was still crawling around at such a late stage of babyhood! angry At the 18 mos check-up, the ECHN mentioned that by 18 mos they'd really like to see more mobility. So we too headed off to the physio to have her checked and after getting her to do a few excercises, was told everything was on target. She could get up on her tippy toes to reach for a toy, she could step over a barrier instead of walking through and colliding with it, she could kick a ball. Her muscle tone was low but that would be strengthened with more walking. The important thing is to get her to walk in bare feet for as long as possible, wherever possible and on uneven surfaces to help the small bones and muscles in her feet to strenghthen.
Now she is walking faster and often breaks into a run, especially when she knows I am chasing her to get changed for daycare!
I must admit the only time I got worried about her not walking yet and wanting her to walk by winter time was so I can put shoes on her feet for warmth!

You say he has started taking steps, he is already partly on his way!! Don't stress they don't know what age they are expected to walk they just do it when they are ready but I would not be worried he sounds pretty normal.
My little girl did not even crawl till 16 mths and walked at 22 months. She is a normal girl but she was very late at moving!!
