Hearing Rss

DD1 has a hearing test tomorrow and i was just wondering if anyone could tell me what to expect. We've been waiting almost two months for this so im a little anxious now.
Hello,

My son had a hearing test today. My DH took him so I can only describe what he told me.

DH had to fill in a form regarding DS medical history.

They then looked into his ear which had a camera (i think) - anyway it came up on the computer screen what inside his ear looked like. DS had some amazing scarring in there which looked like the shape of a star!

He then put something in his ear which tested to see if the ear drums were doing what they were suppossed to do. Again, the results in the form of a graph was sent to the computer.

Finally, he sat in a booth with some head phones on and he had to raise his hand when he heard a noise.

Thankfully DS ears are fine and doing what they are supposed to do. The scarring hasn't affected his hearing.

DS is 5 years old. He was quite happy and co-operative throughout the testing so he mustn't have felt any discomfort at all.

My husband was given a copy of the results and they were also faxed to our GP.

Good luck with her testing tomorrow.
Thank you!! That sounds great.

That's fantastic about your little man, I hope we have the same results smile
Well, we didnt sad Our dd has to have grommits put in, she has pretty bad glue ear. Who knows, maybe this will pay off and she will start talking next week? laugh
Awww I'm sorry to hear that. I had bad glue ear as a child. Mum and Dad thought I was always being naughty - but I couldn't hear them! Grommits sorted me out.

So she's having the operation next week? Hope it all goes well for her and good luck to you too!
Thanks! Tuesday is the big day, im so nervous. Everyone has been so reassuring, telling me its no big deal, fifteen minutes yadayada but i cant help it!

She seems to hear fine, but the doctor i spoke to today explained that some days she will hear nearly perfectly and other days she will hear only slightly and be doing a lot of guess work with what im asking and telling her lol poor girl.

Can I ask how old is she?? My daughter is 23months and we have been on the wait list to see a specialist for 5 months already. I now have my mother telling me that she has hearing problems because some of her words aren't clear (they are pretty close though). Ive thought that her speech is fine but now im second guessing myself.

Hi, my daughter had to see a specialist (and then turned out she needed grommets). My gp actually gave us a referral and then we only had to wait a couple of weeks to see him. When it was established we were happy to pay all the fees (and there was a lot sad ) she didnt have to go on the public waiting list, the following week she was in and out. I think she had just turned three when this all happened.

Another option is talking to your child and youth health nurse/ plunket (not sure where you are) and they can probably refer you to have a hearing check? My daughter needs another hearing check now and we're just going through the CYH.

Hope that helps anyway smile
