Quick question to all mothers who have had children with tongue tie..I just recenly got my sons tongue tie sniped and I was just wondering has anyone had their child have speech problems even after it been snipped as a newborn...I know their may be slight speech problems if they waited longer before snipping it..but I'm talking about from newborn ..after they have grown have they still had speech problems..or had to have it re done...

My son was born with a tongue tie which was cut at 8 weeks old.

He is now 19 months and doesn't talk much at all, so I don't know if its related to the fact he was born with a tongue tie or just a developmental thing.

We are waiting until he turns two before we look into a bit further only because my partner didn't talk until he was two years old. His Dad has a tongue tie that was never cut and he talks no problems but his wasn't as severe.

Sorry I cant help much, but that's my experience so far.
All of my children were born with tt and been snipped at different ages.
Ds1 snipped at 2 yrs lots of speech problems, regular therapy and now at 8years he speech is reassessed each year.
Ds 2 snipped at 8 weeks. Mild speech issues, ongoing therapy. His problems are considered age appropriate though so may not be tt related.
Ds3 snipped about 2 hrs after birth no speech issues apparent at 4years old.
two out of my four boys had tongue ties the first one does have speech problems and needs therapy the second one is fine and talks to much. They both had it snipped at least 2 weeks after birth.

My son who is now 2 and a half had his tongue tied snipped from birth but we have had no problems, in fact he started talking clearly at 1 1/2 and is still better at speech than his 4 year old sister!
Just wanted to let you know that I'm tongue tied, and never had it snipped. It depends on the severity of the tongue tie of course but make sure it's totally necessary if you are thinking about getting it done.

I had the slightest ever lisp as a child, but don't anymore. Other than that there were no speech delays or problems. I just can't stick my tongue out very far at all, but that's not much to complain about!

Of course the more severe tongue ties do create problems and need to be fixed.
