What has happened to my son? Rss

Over the last couple of weeks DS has become grumpy to the extreme. I know toddlers have tantrums, but this seems excessive to the point of being ridiculous!

He has always hated it when I do the dishes, but he was finally getting better. Then one day he got really upset when I started doing them and it has happened every day since. He repeatedly screams at me "pink gloves off!", "cuddle mum!", "mum play with you!". I try giving him cuddles when he asks for them, but as soon as I stop to get back to the dishes he starts screaming again.

Sometimes if he starts getting upset I will start playing with him but everything we sit down to do he will cry "no!". When we move on to something else that will get a no too. And this is even when he has picked what we do.

This morning is a perfect example of the ridiculous part. I bought myself some slippers yesterday and when I put them on this morning he started screaming "slippers off!". I told him calmly that I would keep them on so I could keep my feet warm. He kept screaming at me and I tried comparing them to his slippers with no luck. He spent at least half an hour screaming "slippers off!". He screamed so much he started a coughing fit!

I am wondering if he has a problem with his ears. Last time he had an ear infection/fluid in his ears he didn't have any outward symptoms (no red ears) except that he was grumpy for seemingly no reason.
This seems similar, but I don't think it can be the whole reason why he is this grumpy.
I have an appointment for him at the ear clinic on Monday, but if that isn't it, I just don't know what to do!

Please help!

Thanks Skippy.
He is 22 months. I hadn't even thought about taking him to see anyone. I might do that after his ear appointment.

I am very much on the lookout for signs of Aspergers as my brother has it, but hadn't really thought much about anything else being a problem.
