milks expensive Rss

Just wondering if anyone is able to help me out.
MIlk is so expensive I'm getting sick of buying 4l a week. So I was wondering if its ok to give DS milk powder (obviously made up to make milk) if I go for the dark blue/full fat one?
the only time he has milk as a drink is after dinner and the rest of the times it in stuff - cereal etc.
will he still get all the right stuff from it.
TIA

I have no idea, but I would be surprised if it was as good. The only way to be sure would be to check the label on the powdered milk to see how much calcium, omega 3, etc it contains and compare it to your usual milk. Will you be having the powdered milk too?

Or is there something else you could go without yourself so he could still have the milk?

Not sure where you are but here in Vic, Aus Coles and Woolworths now sell their branded milk for just $2 for 2 litre. I felt bad about the dairy farmers so I stayed with our usual milk for a few months, but then unfortunately I had to do whatever I could to save money so we switched to the Coles milk.
Yeah I'd be having it too but I only have a small amount once a day in my coffee.
I'm in NZ and its about $2 for 1 litre at least and that's the cheap stuff.

I saw something about this on target the other week... powdered milk has less calcium than normal milk. Its only a small amount less though.
If you are worried there are other sources of calcium you could introduce into his diet as well like a handful of nuts every day- although this may end up more expensive than milk wink
Milk is for sale in Coles for just $1 a litre. Do you have access to a coles store, or coles online?? I don't know for sure but I can't see powdered milk being any good.

Nope I'm in NZ no coles here.

I'm sorry, I realised that after I looked at your profile. I have no idea of the price of milk in NZ. :-|
Personally I wouldn't use powdered milk just to save a few dollars. It is a staple thing in life so not something that should be cutback on smile

DS - Nov 2008 & DD - Feb 2012

I was told it wasn't just the calcium the kids need in milk they also need the fat. Thats why we are told not to give low fat or skim milk when possible.

OOOHHH... INTERNET FIGHT. WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO? CAPS LOCK ME TOO DEATH?
(Noddy's not fat ffs!)

thanks for replies, I think I'll stick with standard milk for now and see how we go.

Hi, hey I am in NZ too and often buy powdered milk to use in bread etc and I found that the powdered milk is just as if not more expensive as normal milk. I thought that it was the cheaper out of the two also and was suprised with the cost per litre.
