Healthy Toddler Snacks Rss

Hi

Has anyone got any ideas for healthy snacks for my 16 month old DD, I'm having a mental blank smile

She has cruskits, toast, fruit, cheese, dried fruit, biscuits, yoghurt, Heinz kids bars, cheddarmite sticks... am after some more savoury snacks.
Have you tried Rice crackers and dip, you can make dip with just some avocado and cream cheese. You called also use it to dip carrot sticks (I just cut them a bit bigger for my 16mo).
gee you have got most of it covered!!
you could try making like frittata, or vegie pancakes - you could ask your healthfood store...
ummm my little one is 13months so i need to research..i know someone who juices and dilutes vegetables and her 2 year old loves it but thats not for everyone and its not really a snack...i will look and get back to you!!

Hi Girls

Thanks so much for your ideas smile I think she'd like alot of these and if you have anymore keep em coming!

100% puffed wheat, my DS LOVES it - dry of course, he isn't trusted with milk, or bowls for that matter lol.

He also loves hummus, I get the skinny one and give it to him with crackers, or peanut butter or cream cheese.

Look in the library for baby and toddler cookbooks, lots and lots of ideas. And doesn't cost a thing.
Shrimp, boiled egg, baked stuffed potato (ham, cheese, egg), french toast, cheerios, mousetrap, raisins, use fruit to make smoothie, pancakes, pikelets, fruit kabab, crumpet, mini cheesy bran muffins or mini apple muffins (I have a recipe if you want it), mini scones

I know it's hard coming up with fresh ideas, and I know I feel like I give my child the same things every day - it was good for me to go thru my recipe books for ideas for you cause I've come up with some too. Thanks smile Just have fun with it!

Hi

Would love the recipe for your muffins - they sound great smile What's a mousetrap?
I make my 13month old DD Banana muffins made with real bananas, she just loves them. She is lactose intolerant so I use soy milk or lactose free milk; they are even better with normal milk smile. I make a bunch and pop them in the freezer and then just zap one in the microwave at snack time.

A mousetrap is fancy name for toast. make an egg & cheese mix (you can add bacon, onion, tomato) and spread it on toast bread, bake it in oven for a 5 or 10 minutes or till the bottom is slightly brown and topping is cooked. can be eaten hot or cold. I also like marmite with cheese it's a classic mousetrap I grew up with

Recipe for mini apple muffins

2 cups plain flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup milk
125g butter, melted
1 egg, beaten
2 green apples, peeled, cored and grated

preheat oven to 200. sift the flour, baking powder and cinnamon into bowl, stir in sugar.
Make a well in the centre and add the combined milk, butter, egg and apple. Blend together (stirring no more than 15 times).
Spoon into greased mini muffin tins until 3/4 full. Bake for 15 minutes or until cooked and golden. Cool on a wire rack and store in airtight container. Muffins can be frozen in a sealed bag for up to 1 month.
